With over 40 years of experience as a family law lawyer in the White Plains, NY area, Mary F. Kelly, Esq. We practice collaborative divorce and mediation, alternatives to divorce litigation that may help smooth your family's transition to the next phase of your lives. Considering the needs of your children, your spouse, and yourself as you move forward, we help you reach the best possible settlement and resolution.
Collaborative law takes your divorce out of the courts. In a collaborative divorce, a couple commits to resolving their issues with their team of lawyers-and financial advisors and psychologists if necessary-without going to court. Collaborative divorce can help families avoid the bitter conflict that happens in many traditional divorces.
Divorce mediation is a divorce process that takes place outside of court, under the direction of a mediator. A mediator is a neutral third party (usually an attorney; sometimes a therapist) who facilitates discussion to resolve the issues of your divorce, such as custody and visitation, support, and division of property.
Litigation is the traditional process for getting divorced. In a litigated divorce, one spouse has a summons for divorce served on the other and there are periodic court appearances. If the spouses' lawyers cannot negotiate a settlement on the main issues-spousal and child support, custody and visitation, division of assets-both sides prepare for trial.

I worked with Mary Kelly and she was nothing short of professional and compassionate. Even when I felt down and sad about my decision, she put on her caring and compassionate hat and assured me that my feelings were normal and that I was a good person and making the best decision. Mary was always responsive and available despite the trying COVID times. She always kept me well informed and updated- I would definitely use her and her firm again in the future and would highly recommend her to anyone I know!

I have been a client of Mary\'s for over 30 years. Her advice and attention to detail exceed the level that most attorneys achieve. She promptly answers questions and is readily available. I\'ve used her skill set for purchasing and selling property, for negotiating a certiorari for a large condominium and for advice on civil matters,

I highly recommend Kelly and Knaplund for legal representation, particularly for anyone in need of a competent and compassionate divorce attorney. Mary was first recommended to me by a friend after I found myself confronted with the breakup of my 25 year marriage. Mary guided me through the process, managed my emotional ups and downs as well as my expectations. Her knowledge of the law and consultative approach allowed me to make informed decisions.
