Since 1968, NTH has been confronted with some of the most challenging and complex issues facing our environment today.
Americans generate millions of tons of municipal solid waste annually, most of which is deposited in landfills. Currently, only about a third of the solid waste in the U.S. is recycled and 13% is combusted for energy production. Even as options expand to use municipal waste for recycling and energy production, America continues to rely primarily on landfill disposal.
We trust that investment water and waste water infrastructure will continue to grow; however large gaps will always exist between the infrastructure needs and the available funds, both on the national, state, and local levels. Capital needs for drinking water infrastructure and wastewater infrastructure systems continue to far exceed available funding.
Transportation Infrastructure is a primary concern for its users who routinely experience delays and substandard performance during their daily commute or travels. Much of the infrastructure is aged well-past design life and has had deferred/neglected maintenance. Demand by the public is driving the need for rehabilitation/replacement of facilities.
Our communities, now more than ever, have become the place where we both work and play, yet many neighborhoods are not built to meet today's needs of its citizens. Throughout Michigan and much of the Midwest, the condition of our infrastructure and outdated design of our streets and walkways are not always conducive to support how we want to live.
