East Bay Kokikai Aikido
Website
East Bay Kokikai Aikido is a martial arts school that teaches Aikido, a self-defense martial art. We use throws and pins to defend against striking and grabbing attacks. We apply techniques to deflect, throw, or immobilize one or more opponents. However, we do not rely on great physical strength to neutralize an attack.

Because we emphasize achieving "minimum effort, for maximum effect, " the ideal techniques feel natural and comfortable, requiring the least movement and the least energy. Kokikai is a modern school of Aikido: our techniques continually evolve and become more effective against realistic attacks.
Services
Our dojo (school) is a community built on authentic training, cooperation, and respect. It is a certified branch of Aikido Kokikai International, under the direction of Aikido Kokikai founder, and living master, Shuji Maruyama Sensei. East Bay Kokikai Aikido was founded by Sensei Jason Eshleman and Sensei Cyane Anaya in 2011.
Aikido is a defensive art. The techniques are performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. Kokikai philosophy is "Minimum Effort, Maximum Effect" so using the opponent's momentum makes a lot of sense. We practice defense against grabs, punches, kicks, chokes and holds from front or behind, as well as single attackers, multiple attackers, knife, stick, and sword.
