The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends baby's first dental checkup when you see their first tooth, no later than their first birthday. Time for your child's dental checkup? Request an appointment online and our front desk will contact you to find a time that works for you and your child.

Services
Our mission at SHIELD Pediatric Dentistry is to provide the foundation for a lifetime of great teeth and healthy smiles. We do this by building a great patient care experience with our patients. Our patients often say that they enjoy coming to the dentist. A general dentist may refer you to us for specialized pediatric dental care.
Did you know diet plays a huge favor in the development of your child's teeth? At SHIELD Pediatric Dentistry, we believe prevention and nutrition are the foundation of healthy teeth and gums for life. We provide diet and nutrition counseling and encourage healthy changes to promote overall well-being.
In addition to home care, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you visit your dentist at least one year for a comprehensive oral examination and dental cleaning. The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that your child should visit the dentist within six months after your child's first tooth appears, but not to wait longer than the child's first birthday.
We provide counseling and intervention for many oral habits, including thumb sucking. In many cases, we are able to encourage your child to stop negative habits without the use of an appliance. Occasionally, we will need to install a appliance to discourage these negative habits so that it doesn't impact your child's facial development.
After your comprehensive oral cleaning, your dentist in Westport, MA may apply a topical fluoride varnish to your teeth. Fluoride works by hardening the outer layer of the tooth (the enamel) to make it more resistant to acid erosion of oral bacteria. Topical fluoride may reverse early tooth decay. We may also prescribe a prescription toothpaste with a higher concentration of fluoride.

My son as always been so nervous of the dentist so I stopped going to his regular place. A good friend of mine told me that she takes her girls to Shield Pediatric and they love going back. I made an appointment and I know why her girls love it!
Exceptionally friendly staff, from the girls at the desk, to Erwin our hygentist, and Dr. Dan! My son and I were greeted as soon as we got through the door and that had me relax instantly and my son felt the same! They were kind and gentle during x-rays while I chatted with the friendly respectionist during paper work. I was invited in for the cleaning

My 6 year old son has severe anxiety about the dentist. Today he was very upset before we even got into the building. Dr. Dan came outside, spent some time chatting with him, and examined his teeth in the parking lot. He was not only incredibly calm and patient, but he explained everything thoroughly. I felt right away I could trust him. When we finally made it inside the receptionist was just as wonderful and kind. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. They went out of their way to make us comfortable.

The best children’s dentist in the area I’ve ever been to. My 6 year old went from not even letting her old dentist look in her mouth, to completely relaxed and looking forward to going back! Very friendly, comfortable environment and great overall staff. If you’re looking for a pediatric dentist, this is the one.

I had been putting of the dentist because my twins were petrified. I finally took them yesterday (4 years old) they went in with their mouths clinched shut and wanted nothing to do with it. Within minutes he had them both laughing and mouths wide open. He was so calm, and had a ton of patience with them. Thank you Dr. Dan and his staff for an amazing experience…When we left one of them said he wanted to return tomorrow! Awesome place I highly recommend it!!
