In the 1920's, Edwin C. Koontz built the funeral home at its present location in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. It was unique, since it was one of the first facilities built as a funeral home, with apartments for the owner's family and others. Prior to that time, the funeral home operated out of two private residences in Carrick and Mt.
Oliver. He made provisions for a parking lot, at a time when few families had automobiles. Edwin C. "Pete" Koontz, Jr. followed his father into the funeral profession. In 1954, he hired Thaddeus T. "Ted" Boron, who ran the funeral home until he purchased it in 1968. The funeral home operated as the Koontz-Boron Funeral Home until 1978, at which time it became known as the Boron Funeral Home.

The Boron Funeral Home offers personalized service for traditional or non-traditional funerals or cremation services for families of all religious denominations, along with pre-need counseling and funding choices. We have a lending library and also have numerous booklets available through out the funeral home on topics such as coping with grief for spouses, other adults, and children.
We are members of the National, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association. Family members have been associated with various civic organizations in the community, including the Rotary Club of South Hills, the Friends of the Carrick Library, and the Carrick Business Association.
Death in an Institution: When death occurs at a hospital or nursing home, the medical staff will contact the family. The should also take care of all necessary legal steps. Depending on the hospital policy, either you or they will need to contact Boron Funeral Home, Inc. Unexpected Death at Home or Elsewhere: Immediately call 911.
Send thank you notes to people who assisted you, sent flowers, masses, food, or made charitable donations. Contact your attorney to handle legal matters, such as probating an estate, if necessary. Make sure to discuss the scope of the attorney's work and his or her fees before authorizing their work.
