Founded in 1907 by John A. Freyvogel, Sr., the family business was later operated by sons and successors Thomas J.M. Freyvogel and John A. Freyvogel, Junior. Current owners and operators are Licensed Funeral Directors John A. Freyvogel, III and J. Kirk Freyvogel, who continue to serve the families of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities with honesty and integrity.

My parents have known the Freyvogel family for years. The parents and the sons. My parents always insisted Freyvogel was to do their funerals. My parents have their plans --and then time came when my father passed. I made the call a bit after midnight--extremely kind, understanding, and professional from start to finish. They took care of everything--sat with them the next day to finalize. I would never go elsewhere for our family. They truly care about your needs/wants. They are a family business and they treated us like family.

We have used John A Freyvogel Sons after both of my parents died. In years past our family used a family run, but corporate owned, facility. A family owned and family run facility makes all the difference in the world. We were treated as though they had all the time in the world to work with us, listening to our needs, making insightful suggestions, and doing a few things we asked them to do that I’m pretty sure they didn’t do every day. The Freyvogal brothers and company are incredibly professional, compassionate and thorough. My family just recently lost a loved one and we could not have asked for a better experience. The Freyvogals treated us like we were their only client from start-to-finish, taking care of our needs and special requests with flawless execution. The facility is a fabulous and historic Shadyside Mansion that is comfortable, elegant and conducive to hosting friends and family. I would HIGHLY recommend Freyvogel Funeral Home.
