Affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU), our dojo focuses on the practice of the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Aikido is a self-defense, non-competitive martial art. As a "Do" art, it is a martial path, or way, of improving one's self. It is a place where you grow as a person and learning about Aiki connection.
In terms of its martial application, one of the fundamental concepts in Aikido is to blend with an attack and redirect its energy to either throw or pin the attacker. Instead of meeting brute force with brute force, this martial art seeks to use an opponent's attack against them. Aikido's ultimate goal is for neither the attacker, nor the person being attacked to be seriously hurt.

Milwaukee Shobukan is a martial arts dojo devoted to the practice of Aikido. Our humble beginnings started in 2009 with an after school program in the West Bend High School. Students interested in learning aikido joined the student club on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Wrestling Room. Often times members from surrounding dojo(s) and practitioners moving into the area would come to train with the student club.
Our Adult classes are open to people 14 years of age and up. Classes are a mixture of all experience and rank levels. The majority of Aikido practice is performed in pairs or small groups, and at the Milwaukee Shobukan dojo we generally change up the partners and groups a few times per class. This gives everyone a chance to work together and experience the various feedback from different body types.
It is our general policy for those who have never practiced aikido to visit and observe a class. If you've observed a class already, or have practiced Aikido in the past, then simply download and fill out the forms below. There are no contracts, but we do offer discounted rates for 6 month memberships.

A beautiful space and the dojo is very welcoming. A hidden gem in a very nontraditional setting. Great mats, with plenty of space to practice.
The Shoubukan in Milwaukee practices aikido in the ASU lineage. The aikido practice here is very inclusive to non-members (or members of other organizations), but do contact them first to be polite.
