Howard County Family Dentistry is located just outside of Ellicott City, MD at the intersection of Routes 32 and Frederick Rd. in West Friendship. Dr. Fenlon has been practicing in West Friendship for over 30 years and welcomes patients from all over the state of Maryland. A native Washingtonian, Dr. Fenlon attended St. John's College High School and completed undergraduate studies at Wheeling Jesuit College in Wheeling, West Virginia and the University of Maryland, College Park. He graduated from the University of Maryland's school of dentistry in 1973. Following a general dentistry internship with the U.S. Army in Monterey, California, Dr. Fenlon returned to his family roots on the east coast.

At Howard County Family Dentistry we want you to know that the condition of your oral health plays a very important role in your overall health. According to the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), more than 90 percent of all systemic (overall) diseases have oral health symptoms.
The first step in maintaining a healthy mouth is preventing tooth decay, and sealants can offer major protection against cavities. Your teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria, called plaque. When you don't clean you teeth after eating, plaque bacteria use sugar and starch in food as a source of energy.
In addition to the meticulous cleaning, polishing, and examination of your teeth, we also take the time to help our patients develop proper oral hygiene habits at home. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and make adjustments to your routine where needed. Our doctors and hygienists will also make suggestions for preventative measures such as dental sealants or nightguards to protect against bruxism & TMJ.

Dr Tom has been my Dentist since 1980’s , and I prided my Dental health foe years. In 2008, I had a gastric bypass and , while sleeping during the years following I had gastric reflux. It wreaked havoc on my teeth for next 12 years to where I had 13 cavities in 2020. Doc was diligent with his plan and his repairs. I extraction and two caps later , while fixing the cavities too, I have a clean Dental bill of health!
Nothing short of brilliant in his plan to restore. And he is so passionate about getting it perfect! I love that!

I have been a patient of Dr. Fenlon for years and have had anywhere from cleaning to extensive crown work done. Through all those experiences, everything was explained to me, so that I could understand what was being done and anything that might happen after. Doc is very gentle, and really had me relaxed for whatever treatment was being done. Thanks to the staff for being kind and professional.
