I discovered Hephaestus and it's owner Jef over a decade ago. It started with simple, affordable purchases, and when I realized his goldsmith background and unique designs the fun really began. He set my grandmother's 1.5 carat European cut diamond from the 1880s in a brush white gold tension setting. He next redid my mother's platinum wedding band with 3 baguettes into a pipe cut setting so the "family" stones were together. I've purchased many unique pieces over the years and his customer service/responsiveness is only top notch. My referrals from family and close friends all have been appreciative

My sister and I were having lunch next door and saw the jewelry owner outside his store. My sister had just "ruined" a rose gold ring and another 14k gold wedding ring by soaking them in vinegar -- they both turned black from the chemical reaction of the rose gold and vinegar. The jeweler told my sister he could clean them and it would only take 20 minutes. We walked around and came back 20 minutes later and both rings were beautiful again! He got all that nasty black stuff off of them both and both rings were as good as new. He didn't charge my sister, even when she offered

Picked up our wedding rings yesterday and can't wait to wear mine. We wanted something different and to support a local PS business, we found both at Hephaestus. Jeff is a great guy, showed us varying options in varying styles and price ranges, and let us make the right decision. He had us come in a few times to check our ring sizes to make sure we had the right fit. His selection of jewelry is unique and beautiful. I purchased a ring from this store in 2005. Two weeks after owning it the stone fell out. And there was a large crack on the back of the band. I took it back to the store and the owner said it was the fault of the person he had size the ring and he would have them replace the stone and fix the band.
This year, I read an article that single diamond stones increase in value as time goes on. So I took it along with my original receipt and asked a jeweler what he thought it would be wirth today.
The first thing he said to me was, well to begin with your receipt states that it is an 18K white gold

While Jef Timms states that he takes great pride in being nominated as number one jeweler in Palm Springs, is it irrelevant.
First, my original receipt states 18K white gold band. When I purchased the ring, Jeff insisted I look at the stone through a jewlers loop so that I could see what a high quality diamond I was getting.
Recently I had a jeweler look at it and was shocked to find that he blatantly lied on the receipt stating it was 18K white gold when in fact it is only 14K white gold. And yes, after owning the ring for about three weeks, the stone fell out and there was a crack on the back

The rings suit us to a 'T', and they are one-of-a-kind (OK, two-of-a-kind since he made matching ones for us). You won't get service like this just anywhere!

So Jeff is a ball of fire with no filters. He has an opinion and you're going to hear it. But you know what, he talked us out of Platinum and into White Gold and did all kinds of explanations about weight, matte finish compared to mirror and scratches and so on and so forth.
We went with White Gold, matte finish on the outside and mirror finish on the inside and the rings are GORGEOUS; made especially

I love this jewelry store, the designs are incredible! Two years ago, my boyfriend and I were walking past Hephaestus and I was pulled in by my boyfriend's curiosity. We were a new couple at the time and the ring designs really stuck out. The owner/designer, Jef Timms, was very helpful and we found two rings that we couldn't stop thinking about. This is a small boutique shop run by a fine young man who keeps very busy! We had some rather unique needs and he was able to accommodate us in every detail...beautiful, obviously high quality custom work.
The hours may be a little restricted, but we felt that we were taken care of quite well, and for a fair price. Guess where we will go in the future!!
