Our timeless stone features set us apart from our peers, whether we're creating stairways, patios, dry stack fences, or building retaining walls. Our passion abounds. We are a Bellingham, Washington based, full-service hardscaping company.

We specialize in designing, sculpting, and collaborating with clients to create spaces that utilize wood, steel and natural stone. From residential to commercial environments, we strive for a harmonious relationship between nature, structure, and humankind. You can find our projects in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island, and Snohomish Counties primarily, as well as throughout the state.

After we discuss your project we will help you envision the complete project with drawings and photographic references. Here's where the we order supplies, set up level and plumb lines and get to work on the newly delivered tonnage of stone. After all the landscape lines have been redefined and the stones are finally set, we will guarantee the work from that day forward.

Borrowed Ground created a beautiful flagstone patio for my petite backyard. The crew was fantastic, work was completed ahead of schedule and with the upmost craftmanship and attention to detail.
This is the second project that Borrowed Ground has completed for me an I could not be more pleased.
Highly recommend.

Russ is personable and professional. He has a eye for aesthetics that creates a beautiful landscape. We had a berm in a 2 level backyard that was hard to maintain. We had an idea of what we wanted. Russ and his crew brought it to life. The crew was responsive with questions and follow up. The end result is excellent. Russ was suggested to us by a friend who is a landscape designer. Borrowed Ground did not disappoint. We highly recommend Borrowed Ground.

Russ, Tate and Gilan replaced a retaining wall and short wall around a walkway for us in our back yard which is very difficult to access. Using a crane they were able to move the rock without damaging lawns, etc. The finished product is so superior to what we had in appearance, structure and integrity that it makes we want to do more once our budgets allow. The team worked pretty much every day in rain and snow at times and got it done per their estimates. Very professional and friendly group of guys.

It was a pleasure to work with Borrowed Ground's principal, Russ Beardsley, on retaining wall project for my backyard on Samish Hill. Mr. Beardsley took the time to explain everything to me, including permitting, costs, and the pros/cons of different options. He was upfront and honest with me. If you want a job done right, choose Borrowed Ground for your residential hardscaping or landscaping project.

We are very happy with the project Russ and crew created for us. Russ spent a lot of upfront time getting to know us and what we were envisioning for our project. Russ created a comprehensive plan that he followed and communicated any changes with us so no surprises. He listened to what we wanted and took it to the next level with his artistic vision and experience. All along the way Russ and crew were professional, courteous and hard working.

Borrowed Ground is as rock solid as the hardscapes they create. Russ, Tate, and crew run a tight ship and do it with honesty, trust, open communication, and a commitment to the highest quality of work a Mason can do. We’ve had several jobs completed on our proper, from dry stack retaining walls, staircases, to patios. All magnificent. We highly recommend Borrowed Ground.

Russ and his crew have helped us revamp our yard over the years, project by project. We have found them, each time, to have hired skilled staff who we feel good about having work at our home, and they have delivered what they promised. Russ' communication style is respectful, forthright and thorough. Communication is a two way street and we saw ourselves as responsible for 50% of it. We all worked well together and we would hire them again in a heartbeat. If there were action steps with a deadline, we communicated well about what was needed to make that happen. Although Russ does design

I hired Russ and his team several years ago to build one wall. He did such a good job, was so professional, and creative that I've had Borrowed Ground continue transforming my property. Every aspect of the work I've had them assist with has turned out more spectacularly than I imagined. They have solved existing problems and helped me turn my property into one that is beautiful and functional. They are the best.

I can't speak the quality of Borrowed Grounds work - I never got that far with them, but what I can say that I was promised an estimate, which I never received. Russ, the owner, kept telling me I could expect an estimate by a certain date and then that date would pass and it just continued. When it appeared he was finally getting around to my estimate he texted me to ask my name and even went so far as clarifying my first name. Obviously, these are red flags so I told him it wasn't going to work out and all the best in the future. He replied by saying that all his customers are treated
