Mission Statement: Our dedicated team fulfills A legacy of excellent health care while demonstrating integrity, teamwork and compassion to make you and your pet our priority. Anthracite Animal Clinic was established in 1980 by Yvonne T. Walacavage, VMD. The practice continued to grow until Dr. Walacavage's passing in 2008.
At the time of Yvonne's death Kate Harnish was studying to become a veterinarian and inherited the business from her long time friend and mentor. She had worked for Dr. Walacavage as a Vet Technician for several years, and was hoping to work with her again after finishing her schooling. The business continues to provide veterinary care to animals in Schuylkill County and the surrounding areas.

Pet insurance pays, partly or in total, for veterinary treatment of the insured person's ill or injured pet. Some policies will pay out when the pet dies, or if it is lost or stolen. As veterinary medicine is increasingly employing expensive medical techniques and drugs, and owners have higher expectations for their pet's health care and standard of living than previously, the market for pet insurance has increased.

Everyone here was so compassionate when we had to put our 14 year old lab down a few years ago and now have patience with our 2-2 year old pit mixes. Dr. Katie is extremely knowledgeable and gives you options. There is no pressure for treatments you can't afford. I have always asked for a cost estimate in advance and there is never an issue to get one. We used another vet in the area in the past and Anthracite's prices were a lot lower. We will use their services for all our future pets.
