OMA stands for Oliver Martial Arts, where we teach the art of Shotokan, a style of Karate developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi. Funakoshi trained in popular styles of Okinawan karate, adopted the Kyu/Dan rank system and the uniform (Keikogi) developed by Kano Jigoro, the founder of judo.
This system uses colored belts (obi) to indicate rank. Funakoshi laid out the Twenty Precepts of Karate (or Niju Kun) which form the foundations of the art, heavily based on bushido and Zen, where it lies the philosophy of Shotokan. The dojo kun lists five philosophical rules for training in the dojo, which is posted on a wall of the dojo and students are encouraged to memorize as it provides motivation and a context for further training.

Services
All Belt tests or promotional exams are formal tests - clean, pressed white gis (uniforms) will be worn (with dojo patch), proper hygiene, and all karate etiquette will be observed, as OMA Karate strongly follows Dojo Kun. We are not a belt test factory, therefore, attending the test, does not mean that the examinee will automatically pass.
OMA Karate summer camp encourages fun, fitness, and friendships while instilling self - control, discipline and respect in a safe environment. Our program is the perfect way for kids to be introduced to Martial Arts, even if they have never trained before. The children will be instructed in the art of Shotokan karate including learning self-defense, stranger danger techniques and how to avoid lures that are essential for children to know.

I put my daughter in the after school program here. It was convenient and reasonable for our needs. In the beginning it seemed to be ok. It’s hard being the new kid anywhere so I figured she just needed to get used to it and it was different from anything we’ve ever done. Then constantly she’s coming home saying someone was mean. I ask her if she is telling whoever is in charge. She says yes so I figure it is being handled. Then someone steals her snack but I was never notified. The final straw today.. I go to pick my child up a little earlier than normal. I go to the door and wait for the

Every day instead of my son saying “ guess what I did today?” And being excited He came home saying “ today so-so yelled at me, today so-so was being mean etc.”
Mrs. Barbara would answer a question to me on the defense & not offer a solution. Almost an insult about my child as if offended I asked( “ well I don’t know what’s going on there we try to make them Independent but he yells sometimes. “ ). I don’t know where the solution is offered & felt it was unprofessional. I was not comfortable.
My son went for a summer had a great time, we started the school year and had nothing

What a wonderful karate school for my 4 year old son. My son loves going twice a week. He has so much fun and he has learned so much in the short time we have been here. They teach discipline, respect, listening skills, and so much more in a fun environment! Plus there is lots of physical activity so my son comes home exhausted. Its a win win! We would recommend Oliver martial arts to everyone we know!

Our kids attended several camps this summer, Oliver Martial Arts Academy was their favorite! They did several day trips, all of which they really liked, and really enjoyed the workouts. They also were better behaved when we picked them up than when we dropped them off! It was also very reasonably priced. Couldn't ask for more than that!

My youngest son has been taking classes here for almost a year. He started when he was 4. They do such a good job of teaching discipline, respect, and skills in a balanced and caring way. Currently my 2 sons (now 5 & 7 years old) are enrolled in their summer camp. They love it. They get to do cool field trips, are excited about what they learn at the dojo, and their behavior is better at home. Ms. Barbara is a joy to work and communicate with. Prices are reasonable, too. Really happy we chose OMA.

Oliver Martial Arts does not only teach Shotokan techniques but a lifestyle of health, fitness, and character. They have classes for students as young as 3 yrs old all the way to adults. Each class designed to teach each age group and different levels of training and fitness. We have enjoyed very much the adults class that has a variety of belt levels and enjoy the challenge. Thanks!

I was looking for an alternative childcare program because my son's current elementary after care only has them watching TV most of the afternoon every day because they are supposedly "understaffed." Keiko Shin has been a productive and fun alternative for my son. I see him learning new skills every week, and we've already seen improvements in his focus at home and at school. I do wish they had alternative daily rewards other than lollipops since they go every day, but I just take them and give them away (teaching my kids generosity) and use the one as a weekly reward.
