Services
Dr. Shieh grew up in Munster, Indiana and attended Munster High School. He later graduated with honors from Purdue University in West Lafayette. Dr. Shieh graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2010. He was awarded the Gutherie P. Carr Award during his time. After graduation, Dr. Shieh wanted to provide quality comprehensive dentistry to his patients.
Your first visit at our office is important in establishing your oral health baseline. We will perform a complete oral examination which includes an oral cancer screening, periodontal evaluation, an analysis of your occlusion (bite) and a thorough examination of your teeth, their supporting structures and of the oral anatomy.
We are conveniently located in St. John, Indiana, off of Indianapolis Boulevard (US 41) in the St. John Crossing (next to the Walgreens at the corner of 93rd Ave and Indianapolis Boulevard). How truly concerned and thorough the hygienist and dentists were, offering so much information for maintenance and follow-up options. I always feel so well taken care of. It is wonderful. I love the wonderful staff at South Shore Smiles. After having several traumatic dental experiences as a child, I was looking for a dentist that wouldn’t do that for my son and make him dread going to the dentist. I came across a couple good dentists but one negative review that triggered bad memories for me would put me off of ever taking my son there, so my search continued. I came across South Shore Smiles and saw nothing out good things about them, it was a fairly new office and didn’t know if I wanted to take the chance of taking my son to his first appointment there. South Shore Smiles was amazing with my son! He has had a traumatic previous experience, and has been hesitant to allow the dentist to work and check his teeth. My son 6 has agreed to let them work on his teeth that need to be filled! They were great and explained what they will need to do! That is all my son wants to know is what is going on and what to expect. He was a bit nervous but is going to give it a try! So thankful!

I had heard such good things about South Shore Smiles- and had our first visit today for my 6 yo. Well, the staff here is super nice and helpful. I am still in ‘awe’ of how wonderful this place really is. It’s a far drive from where I live, but I’d drive a day if I had to, because of how wonderful everyone is. They explain everything - answer all questions- and my super difficult child LOVED them. Once we left, he said that he liked it and would go back. That’s enough for me! Five stars all the way around. I’d give 10 if I could.

The staff is ALWAYS helpful and courteous. Dr. Shieh takes his time and explains everything before and after his treatments. He remembers his patients history before even sitting down to look at them. Dr Dunlop is so down to earth and friendly with kids. She makes my children feel comfortable to get their teeth cleaned and worked on. Overall, the best Dentist I have ever seen.

I had my 2nd cleaning on Monday. Today was the first time either of our sons have ever seen a dentist (almost 4 years old and 2 years old). I’m terrified of going to the dentist. They made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. They were awesome with our sons as well. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the girls at the front desk, the hygienists, the dentist…all were very friendly, professional and understanding. I will definitely be referring my family and friends to South Shore Smiles!

Dr.Brandon & Rene were absolutely wonderful with my son having a baby tooth pulled & a filling. The experience as a mom having a past bad experience was such a relief and a pleasure. My son never winced & did not even know the tooth was pulled! They made him feel so comfortable and were so professional yet personable.

Love t his place. The dentist and the assistants are nice, professional, patient and considerate. I don’t only love this place for myself but I love it for my son as well. He had a tooth extraction and had no idea until he made it home. That's where the patient part comes in. I recommend this dental practice over any other in this area.
