When Maurice Bristol Kilmer founded the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home in Argyle in 1927, wakes and funerals were still being held in the home. Since the funeral director's place of business was not a gathering place for families, a store front location, often used to sell furniture and coffins, was also used as a place to prepare the deceased for the home viewing/funeral.
