We got initial consultation with John Guthrie to discuss divorce settlement and not only he was very knowledgeable but honest and very helpful ! Unlike others he did not try to mislead and give us false information just to make money, instead he was 100% honest with us and gave a right legal advise. I would recommend him to anyone without hesitation! Also he was highly recommended to us by another great law firm, they had no availability for consultation any time soon and highly recommended John, I can see why.

I was referred to John Guthrie. I was unable to hire John, he was too busy to handle my case, I hired his office and he assigned Dominic Dinon to represent me in a DVRO hearing in Martinez.
Dominic did not ask the questions I instructed home to ask, he ignored my instructions to him. He left me without a voice in the courtroom.
I would definitely not recommend Dominic Dinon or anyone else from Guthrie Law offices.

When I sat down with John for the first time, immediately felt comfortable and almost like I was talking with a friend right away. Feeling like that really helped me open up and dig into my case and John was no b.s. and was able to answer and give me even more information i didn't know and it was all done in very little time. I had a consultation appointment with Mr. Guthrie last week. I left feeling that he had given me honest advice, not just telling me whatever was needed to get my retainer. I really appreciated his candor and felt that he was looking out for my best interest. I used this law firm when I was dealing with my child support, child custody and move away case. Rebecca Jones was my lawyer. She was phenomenal EVERY step of the way. She walked me through every emotional step of this ordeal. She was always an email or phone call away and made me feel comfortable with understanding everything that was going on. In 1999, I went to see Guthrie about my divorce and interviewed with him, but when it came time to get down to the nitty-gritty, he palmed me off on his new partner. (I guess he was a partner; maybe he was just an employee.)
NOT ONLY THAT, but my divorce was the FIRST case James Choate had ever handled!!!!!!
Nobody told me this!!! I figured it out later.
I should have been told up front and asked whether I could be the guinea pig for Choate with Guthrie as backup. (Choate was just ok. Bedside manner pretty awful, but

Handled a TRO case for me and it was awful. Carla was the attorney and was not aggressive at all and very weak...John (the owner), was not genuine at all and all he cared about was the billing and me paying...even took my check to the back while I was still in his office meeting with Carla. Weak attorney, do not recommend!!!

I had James Choate representing me. He always showed up on time, was very knowledgeable in responding to any questions or concerns that I had, and most importantly never made me feel like my case wasn't important. He's definitely not one of those "slime ball" lawyers that will ill advise you..and constantly answer his cellphone, then run out of the room. I first went to John's office for assistance in closing a child support issue. All parties were in agreement but other attorneys I spoke with were trying to make it a huge issue and requesting large retainers for a simple letter. John prepared the letter and the issue was immediately resolved. John's office also performed our estate planning for us, provided much needed advice, set up a family trust and clearly explained all the issues related to it for us.
