Haydon Jr., "Tommy", graduated from the University of Kentucky with a civil engineering degree in 1970 and already with six kids in tow.
After working for a couple of years for consultants and contractors, he struck out on his own in 1972 with the incorporation of Haydon Bridge Company. The early years were tough. Tommy would bid a job and then go build it. Once completed, he would bid another one and then go build it.
