Services
Bankruptcy is a federal court process designed to help consumers and businesses eliminate their debts or repay them under the protection of the bankruptcy court. Bankruptcies can generally be described as "liquidation" or "reorganization". Under a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you ask the bankruptcy court to wipe out (discharge) the debts you owe.
My office can help you with the following tax matters to get a resolution that is best for you. If you have one or more of the following, contact me to get started. You have been notified the IRS is about to start garnishing your paycheck, seizing your bank account or putting a lien against your property.
Chapter 13 is a way to pay back your creditors while keeping your property. Chapter 7 is a way to wipe out your debts so that you do not have to repay them. If you have filed Chapter 13 or Chapter 7, you will be required to complete a Financial Management course in order to get your discharge. I recommend getting this done immediately after filing your case so that you do not delay getting your discharge.
Your court hearing will be held in the Frank M. Johnson Federal Courthouse Complex in either one of two locations. Please pay particular attention to the court notice you have received as it will give you the specific location of the hearing. Showing up to the wrong location for your hearing could result in you missing your court date.
