Services
Our story began in 1961 when we purchased the tavern that sat on this very spot. We knew we wanted to share more than spirits, so we gathered family recipes for great German and local food, and the old tavern was torn down, and the Schnitzelbank Restaurant was born in 1971. Ranking in the top 10 independent restaurants in Indiana, it has become a destination in itself with our Wunderbar Salad Bar, 2 chops, a full bar, and working Glockenspiel.
Three of our German Style eggrolls, Corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese wrapped and deep-fried. Slow cooked beef tips in a rich red wine gravy served over our house-made spatzle noodles. Rolled sirloin tips stuffed with bacon, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and a Gherkin pickle. A jumbo salted pretzel lightly covered with sauerkraut, two Merkley Bratwursts, and a drizzle of honey mustard sauce.
All dinners, unless otherwise stated, are priced per person. The final number of people in attendance is requested 7 days prior to the event date. Payment is based on the number of reservations plus any additional surprise guest. Gratuity is at the discretion of the customer except for selections from the Lighter Side.
Drop-off: We deliver your food in disposable pans with serving utensils for parties under 50. Travel fees may apply. Delivery: We deliver your food in disposable pans with serving utensils and provide a catering attendant to manage your buffet line. For parties of 50-75. Additional service fees and travel fees may apply.
A refreshing, dark dunkel with a clean taste perfectly balanced with hints of barley malt and a mild hoppy bitterness. A dark Irish dry stout originating in the brewery of Arthur Guinness at St. James's Gate, Dublin, Ireland, in 1759. Located in Jasper, Indiana, created with one goal in mind - to brew great-tasting craft beer.

As we were headed to St Louis on vacation, we saw a billboard for this authentic German restaurant, Schnitzelbank. When we stopped at the rest area around the exit for Dale, Indiana, they had pamphlets for Schnitzelbank. So, they've put some money into advertising.
We decided to take the eighteen-mile drive to this restaurant in Jasper, IN, on the way back home. We parked in the restaurant's back lot, and we encountered two people walking out. They told my wife that we didn't need our masks.

I have been told about Schnitzelbank for several years.
I have been wanting to try it, but as with most things in the last few years, Covid has hindered my trying new restaurants.
My chance came when my church's men group sponsored a men's retreat at Saint Meinrad Archabbey. Visting Schnitzelbank is a well-attended tradition/break from the excellent food at the Archabbey.
We had reservations at 7, for 44 men... When we arrived a few minutes before 7, the table was set up and we were seated immediately...
I cannot list what everyone had, but I selected the German Sampler Platter

Growing up in Jasper, the 'Schnitz' just kind exists. Sometimes, there's almost a resentment because the local place is kind of a tourist destination.
Having not lived in the area for a number of years, my relationship with this place has evolved. I feel like I have separated the wheat from the chaff and found what works for me.
Kraut Balls and that Giant Pretzel are shareable wins.
Chicken livers and beer are a combination that cannot be beat. Get the Liver Dinner and add the salad bar because it's worth it.
Don't sleep on the chicken tenders. Like, honestly

Before we get to the food...
If you are bringing kids, handicapped people, anyone who is prone to bumping into anytjing in small spaces - have them wait in the car. The gift shop is also a waiting area and several parties broke things hanging on unstable nails or resting on glass shelves...us included.
After my daughter knocked an item from one of the nails, a cashier immediately came over to collect for it. Same with another party. Then they have the nerve to ask you if you want to keep it.
For 10 bucks, we will just glue it and hang it in the garage as a reminder of our visit.

We drove down to the Schnitzelbank to celebrate Bernie birthday. As you arrive you come across this authentic German restaurant. Chicken tenders are huge and enough for three meals. the chicken dinner was very good. The wurst sausag platter are the. best of times. The chicken tenders were huge. the side salads could be more than half a dinner salad. The chocolate cream pie was not merely a slice but a small pie unto itself. The German food was authentic and well worth the drive. who would have thought of authentic. make the drive. it is well worth it

This place was so good! You can definitely split an entree. The food is great! We got a pretzel for an appetizer which 4+ could've easily split. It came with beer cheese which was excellent. My fiancé and I split a platter which came with three different meats and 2 sides. I got the salad bar. I was very impressed with that. They had a girl completely working at the salad bar. She was restocking everything. She was also cleaning and keeping it organized. There were lots of options on the salad bar. This was my first time here. I'll definitely be back!!

I'd never been to Jasper but if I ever find myself back there, I'd stop in at the Schnitzelbank for a giant Pilsner, some of their fried sauerkraut balls with the (melt your face off) horseradish mustard and something random off the menu for an entre.
I've read ravings about the salad bar but I opted against it as it looked like the Tasmanian Devil had been through there. I like the little shop they have and I regretted not getting any of that mustard to take home. Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about German food but I enjoyed the sausage I had and our service was very

What a pleasant suprise this place was!!! A friend and I were traveling to holiday world and totally spaced the 1 hour difference from Indy to it and were looking for a place to burn some time and grab a bite to eat and happened to drive past this place and wanted to give it a try.. And oh boy were we impressed!
To start we got their pretzel with the cheese and mustard. Its no exaggeration to say this was the BEST pretzel ive ever had. And the cheese was AMAZING. Be light on the mustard.. It lit us up. (The waitress did warn us on this but it still suprised us, lol)
Next i ordered the pork shank

I so wanted to like this place. I drove 2 1/2 hours each way to come here for some decent German food... and it was a complete fail. I see other reviewers calling this authentic German food... uhm... I am German, born and raised, and while there are a lot of traditional German dishes on the menu, their taste is anything but authentic.
The only somewhat good dishes were the German fries (if you don't harp too much on the many burnt spots) and the Wiener Schnitzel. No wonder Americans don't care much for German food if this is what they are served.

My girlfriend received a $10 off coupon for her birthday so we headed to Jasper on Friday evening. I had never been before so I was looking forward to the Seafood and Salad Buffet as well as the pound of Crab legs.
We arrived at 5:25p thinking it wouldn't be crazy busy yet but we were so wrong. It was standing room only inside and out but they were calling names almost constantly. The nice thing was we could wait in the gift shop area or outdoors where the weather was tolerable. I stayed indoors and had a chance to check-out the gift shop. Cinnamon rolls, Christmas oraments, wine, children

Excellent experience. Food was good. Functioning salad bar. German influenced .
It was busy but the staff were all wearing masks properly. There was a wedding rehearsal dinner in the front room. They had their own food buffet from what I could tell and were kept separate from the rest of the patrons. A good thing since not all the wedding party wore masks.

My family had dinner here after visiting Holiday World. We didn't arrive until after 7 PM but they were still quite busy.
We had the potato pancakes as an appetizer and they were delicious. (We liked the apple butter they served with the potato pancakes so much that we bought a jar of it before we left.)
My wife enjoyed her prime rib sandwich. My daughter and I thought the pork tenderloin sandwiches were good (very tender) but not great (could have been more flavorful).
Our biggest disappointment was the wait time for our food (1 hour). This could be due to the fact that the restaurant

Bought a dozen mixed donuts this morning. Terrible quality! They were too soft that when you tried to pick up a jelly filled donut, they would fall apart. The sugar coating was melting and extremely messy and, the sugar was very grainy.
I also did not think they had much in the way of flavor.
I was hopeful for a good donut from them as their food is usually fine.

We stayed at French Lick for vacation and went here one night. We absolutely loved it. We got the sampler appetizer and it was amazing. The potato cakes and Ruben rolls were delicious. The pretzel was tasty as well. We opted for the salad bar and we were not disappointed. I tried schnitzel for the first time and it was pretty good. The German fries are great too. My mother had the Rueben and it looked delicious. I would try that the next time I visit. The gift shop is very cute. When back in the area we will be sure to stop here.
