Services
From running around the yard slaying dragons with my two kids to mountaintop kisses with my husband, I believe in life's extraordinary, ordinary adventures. Life really is a beautiful, wild, heart-thumping thing. People inspire me. Traveling opens my mind and my heart, renewing my work. Trips to document the stories of nonprofits all over the world fill me up in a way that is unique and gives me purpose.
This is the part of my site where I'm supposed to close the deal. I pitch you on why you need to hire me right this second. And to be honest, that is so not my style. I would much rather be sitting with you having tapas and wine and just talking about how much I want to document your days. Maybe even in Spain.
I believe that there is such power in seeing your birth in photos. Your birth story is one of the most important stories that you will continue to look back on for your entire life. Your story matters and will be a tale you tell in the first months, first years and when you are a grandmother talking to your grandkids.
As a photo journalist at heart, I document the first moments home in a style that is an artistic representation of who you all are as family. The new excitement of change. The stillness of energy and the honest love (too small a word) for this new nugget of life that carries your heart outside of your body now and forever.
Motherhood and the journey to get there is so full. It's full of anticipation, desire, hope, fear and lots of questions. Carrying a baby sits you on the precipice of immeasurable change. And yes the emotions can be overwhelming, but I find this season of life to be one of the most tender and raw spaces for women and families.

Kate Carlton gave me a positive look at my birth experience. I had such a a traumatic time with my labor and she gave me an amazing view into the work that I did. Being so ruined and upset from the way my birth went I thought I would never have another baby, but when I look at my birth photos I feel so amazing and empowered that I would do it 1000 times over.
Not to mention that Kate makes you feel so welcomed and comfortable around her. Shes such a kind and amazing soul and does a great job of blending into the birth space you hardly know she is there.

Our experience with Kate Carlton Photography was nothing short of incredible. I had a very specific vision for the ‘feel’ I was hoping to portray with our sessions, and Kate far surpassed any expectations I had. Kate is absolutely the best! She has photographed my family for over 4 years years and every time I am completely in love with the images she creates. Kate believes that you don't always know your own strength or beauty until you see yourself through another’s lens and it is so true, both figuratively and literally. Kate has been taking my family's pictures for almost 5 years. When we move to Colorado Springs we found out we were pregnant. We asked around for a photographer who was not only highly recommended, but also very easy to work with. Kate was and still is our gal! We have been beyond blessed to have her take our maternity pictures (two sessions), first 24, and first birthday pictures of our two kiddos. Plus all of our holiday and just because pictures thrown in there. What is amazing is how she captures a picture that you had no idea was even a "great picture." She doesn't do super posed pictures
