The Pulmonary Paper was founded and first published by Celeste Belyea in 1988 - before the Internet and portable oxygen concentrators were available - as a means to connect, educate and support people who were dealing with chronic respiratory problems. Celeste has degrees in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and is a Certified Asthma Educator.

When so many oxygen users complained they could no longer travel, the Sea Puffers were born to eliminate the fear and anxiety of what could happen along the way. The Pulmonary Paper has reached and helped many people with pulmonary conditions, their family and friends, caregivers, pulmonary rehabilitation centers, Better Breather Support groups, physicians and medical professionals.

We are very thankful to the many oxygen users we have served and continue to support. We have been selling portable oxygen concentrators since they were invented and became available. We have learned a lot along the way and want to share that knowledge to genuinely find the POC that fits you and your needs!
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to a group of lung diseases that block airflow as you exhale and make it increasingly difficult for you to breathe. Emphysema and chronic asthmatic bronchitis are the two main conditions that make up COPD. In all cases, damage to your airways eventually interferes with the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your lungs.

Tissue deep in the lungs becomes thick, stiff and scarred. The scarring is called fibrosis. As the lung tissue becomes scarred, it interferes with a person's ability to breathe.
Bronchitis is the inflammation of the lining of the airways, or bronchial tubes. When your airways are inflamed and/or infected, less air is able to flow to and from the lungs and you cough up heavy mucus or phlegm. There are two types of bronchitis: acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis can accompany a cold and clears up after a week or two.
Influenza, commonly known as "the flu, " is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. It affects all age groups, though kids tend to get it more often than adults. In the United States, flu season runs from October to May, with most cases occurring between late December and early March.
