After completing an undergraduate education at the University of Iowa with majors in psychology and social work, I was employed as a youth worker in a residential treatment facility for adolescent girls court-ordered to treatment. After five years of this work, I returned to the University of Iowa to pursue my Master's degree in social work.
After earning my degree in May of 2007, I was hired as a clinician at the Adoption and Attachment Treatment Center of Iowa where I specialized in adoptive families for the following two years. My sessions focus on healing trauma, achieving secure attachment in relationships, and developing the a positive self-identity.

Services
It is important to devise an individualized treatment plan tailored to a families' specific needs and strengths. Because parents are the experts on their child, I involve parents in the treatment planning process, where we devise individual and family goals.
In order to formulate a helpful treatment plan, we must establish a history of significant events, an understanding of the child's current functioning and challenges, and a mutual representation of how progress will be evaluated. To achieve this, I conduct a thorough diagnostic interview with family members and provide written assessments to be completed by both the parent and the child.

Therapeutic parenting is a set of strategies for responding to a child's behavior in a way that helps the child establish safety, security, connectedness, and self-worth. I help parents better understand the mind of their child so they can choose interventions that meet the child's developmental and emotional needs.
As an attachment therapist, I am interested first and foremost by how a client is able to navigate their relationships. In attachment work, the relationship is the patient. The goal is to increase trust and security in the intimate relationship between parent and child. When secure attachment is the treatment goal, the involvement of parents is essential to a successful outcome, therefore parents are expected to attend each session.
