Mandarin Tree Academy
Announcement: Awarded "Best Preschool in Manhattan Beach" in 2018! A special thanks to our wonderful laoshis ("teachers") and Mandarin Tree families for all of their love and support! We are here to enrich our children's young educational experience and to prepare them for our globalizing world. We have developed an advanced academic program (please see the "Annual Goals" tab), and conduct our entire program in Chinese Mandarin.

We believe that young children don't "learn" a language by being taught language lessons, they acquire a language by being surrounded by it. In the process, they also absorb the culture and values that are the foundations of the language. Our Mandarin immersion approach allows children to explore through academia, play, and to experience every event as an opportunity to learn.
Services
We are a locally born Los Angeles Chinese family with 3 young children. We are both young working professionals. I am a Vice-President at a large bank, and my husband works in Corporate Finance. Though Chinese, my husband and I unfortunately did not grow up speaking Mandarin. My husband was sent to a Palos Verdes Chinese school for 5 years, but didn't learn much.
Jaycee, the former Director of the Mandarin Tree Academy earned a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Cal State Fresno University. Born in Tianjin, China, she most recently worked with young preschool aged children at a Reggio Emilia program. While in China, she taught English to high school students at one of the Top 3 high schools.
I am so happy and thankful to have such wonderful laoshis, students and supportive families at the Mandarin Tree. Thank you for all of your love, trust and support! I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your school with us. We have been blown away by D's Mandarin skills. I don't think I've had a chance to talk to you since he came back from China.
What is Immersion Learning? Immersion students acquire the necessary language skills to understand and communicate about the subject matter set out in the Common Core and Essential Standards for each grade level. They follow the same curricula, and in some instances, use the same materials (translated into the target language) as those used in the non-immersion schools.
Parents who are considering an immersion program for their child usually have many questions. This digest provides introductory responses to some of the questions most commonly posed by parents. This digest reviews common parental concerns related to bilingual childrearing and shares the current science on bilingual child development.
