Services
The DUCTOLOGIST is a Home Performance contractor in the Puget Sound area that specializes in diagnosing, repairing, sealing and insulating residential heating and cooling ducts. For many reasons, homes do not heat or cool to their best ability which compromises comfort and energy use. We are Building Scientists that understand how homes work here in the Northwest as it relates to comfort and energy performance.
We will start with a discussion about any concerns you have with your home. Then we will go on a room-by-room tour and evaluate the whole house. The examination will include a tour of your crawlspace and attic. We have simple tests that we can perform to tell us a great deal about air distribution and heat loss in your home.
The ducts in your home are made up of many components that were typically assembled on site when your home was built. Since they are usually located in confined spaces like crawlspaces and attic, the installation is challenging. Unfortunately, this gives installers an incentive to short-cut the install or use materials that they have on hand that may not be the best for creating a solid and permanent joint.
It is important to contain the energy that a heating and cooling system produces. Your home relies on sufficient insulation to hold this in. If it is determined that your home needs more insulation, The Ductologist can perform the work. We only use the highest quality materials and install them to Utility Specifications for a well performing, durable installation.
The Ductologist is a registered contractor with Puget Sound Energy, Snohomish PUD, Tacoma Power and Pacific Power. We are able to offer you the rebates and incentives of each utility. These incentives are generous and have a big impact on the amount that you will need to pay to have your ducts sealed, repaired or insulated.

I took the morning off to get an estimate for duct repair. The estimator showed up on time and said he would give me an estimate on ductwork and the installation of some ductless minisplits the following Monday. I've followed up with 3 emails and 2 calls over the 3 weeks that followed. No response - don't waste your time.

I called these guys to determine why one of the vents in my kitchen was not blowing air. I can't recall the guys name, but I can tell you he was very professional and respectful. I've been having quite a few contractors out for bids recently and this guy took his shoes off at the door without being asked. I really appreciated that. Then he went down in the crawlspace...(not a pleasant place to go) to see if he could determine the problem. He came back up and ultimately found that someone had shoved insulation down into the duct (why? Who on earth knows!) So he pulled it out and air started

Derek came to review my old 100 year house to see about upgrades to our basement because it isn't as warm as the rest of the house. He was very personable and showed me carefully what could be done to upgrade it and then explained that it would only save me about 2% on my bill so he didn't recommend doing it as it would take 10 years or so to amortize the investment. Although they didn't do any work, I was thrilled with the customer service and honesty.

They don't answer their phone, but originally they called back a few days after my first inquiry. Their inspector/estimator came and did his thing. He seemed professional and knowledgeable, but we never got a quote. A few weeks after their inspection I left several messages asking for follow up and never heard back. Are they still in business?
