Strategies for Academic Success isn't the same old "college admissions counselors" you'll find toting "best fit" college planning on Yelp. Instead, we're entirely concerned with building a future for your child that extends well beyond their college career. We know that college is just a stepping stone to your child's bright future, so we offer coaching programs that address the entire spectrum of their needs.
Yes, we do admissions counseling, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to what we can offer your family. Tell a story that's going to 'wow' the admissions board, not the same ones they see 10,000 times per year. College should be a way to climb the ladder, not a financial burden that keeps your family down.

Services
Strategies for Academic Success was founded by Weston Mathews in 2010 as an in-home tutoring company geared toward empowering students by providing advanced study skills training and critical thinking workshops rather than rote memorization techniques. As our students grew into successful high school scholars, it became clear that our clients required effective college planning to ensure their continued success.
When it comes time to research possible career paths, students are often asked "What do you want to be when you grow up" but have they ever been asked "who" they want to be when they grow up? Answering a question like that requires a deep understanding of a student's values and goals, which are difficult to explore and solidify when they're busy staying on top of their studies, extracurricular activities, and chores.
Junior year is cited by the National Association of College Admissions Counselors as the most important academic year in regards to college admissions decisions. Considering that students apply during their senior year of high school, junior year is the final snapshot that university admissions officers will receive before making their primary decisions.
We understand that sometimes students and parents are a little late in preparing for college admissions. After all, there are a thousand other thing to focus on every single day. Grades are always an issue, students need to study for (and retake) their standardized tests, mid-terms and finals seem to creep up out of nowhere, and let's not forget organized sports, practice, and other extracurricular activities.
Hook the audience by beginning the story at a tense moment of emotional or physical jeopardy. Flashback to how they got here in the first place, and sprinkle in some emotional development along the way. If you want your child to tell their real story then they need a unique take on the same events that hundreds (if not thousands) of students are writing about this application season.

We used Weston Mathews and his services to help our high-school daughter with her college planning. She was looking for an outside someone who could help guide her through all of the various difficulties insofar as they concern her next level of education and what this means to career planning and her thoughts to the future. Very useful for her and we are so pleased to have used him.
