Putnam Indian Field School
The Putnam Indian Field School is an independent, co-educational preschool for children from toddler through Pre-K years. Established as the result of a merger in 1978 between two well-known Greenwich nursery schools, the school represents over 70 years of combined experience in serving community children.

Organized as an educational, non-profit corporation, and operated by a Board of Trustees made up of school parents, PIFS is licensed by the State of Connecticut and accredited as a program of excellence by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In the spring of 2016, PIFS became a Connecticut Green LEAF School.
Services
At Putnam Indian Field School, we create conditions in which discoveries take place. We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in play, engaged in activities of interest to them and that lead them to make choices, explore, experiment, investigate, discover and create.

The teachers follow the child's interests and introduce learning skills in the context of those interests so that each child's early school experience becomes a happy, exhilarating adventure. At PIFS, the child learns to function effectively and comfortably both independently and in group situations; and grows in confidence, independence and responsibility.
The classroom experience for our Toddlers, Nursery, Connecting and Pre-Kindergarten students naturally differs based on what is developmentally appropriate. What is an underlying thread throughout Putnam Indian Field School is our belief that children are powerful and competent learners and that they learn best in thoughtfully prepared and engaging environments by teachers who are loving, enthusiastic, joyful and careful listeners.
Putnam Indian Field School has 13 different classes offering a variety of enrollment opportunities including half-day and three-, four- and five-day options, depending on the age of the child. Putnam Indian Field School recognizes that young children enjoy working and learning in small groups with lots of teacher attention.
The Smokey's Bounder Enrichment Program has a long and important tradition at PIFS. Originally named for Smokey the Bear, these nature and enrichment programs provide children with the opportunity to extend their learning beyond their day in the classroom. Open to students three years and above, offerings vary depending on the age of the child.
Your children will spend most of their days outside on our multiple playgrounds as well as across the entire campus, engaged in outdoor exploration, gardening, and using nature as our classroom. Each week will feature a different theme to add to the fun, and we will have special guest appearances throughout the program.
