Vinodha Psychotherapy & Consultation
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that exposure to trauma (which could be a single event such as an accident or assault, or several traumatic events such as in longterm childhood abuse) can lead to a myriad of psychological symptoms and issues, that persist even long after the exposure to the trauma.

Therapy will focus on adaptive skills to deal and cope with trauma related symptoms, that could be manifesting as negative self-beliefs, depression, anxiety, or hyper-vigilance. Goals for therapy will include the cultivation of self-care, self-confidence and self-compassion within you, enabling you to heal from your past, to make authentic connections, and to thrive.
Services
We often get so busy in our daily routines and responsibilities that we don't pause to reflect on what we need to lead more fulfilling lives. Therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment to work through the difficult issues in your life. As a psychotherapist, I am trained to be attuned to you and your struggles, and to listen carefully and help you gain more understanding of what is keeping you stuck.
I provide Individual Psychotherapy for Adults from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds with a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. When appropriate, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy which is an integrative therapy that helps one access, reprocess and integrate unresolved or traumatic memories and events from the past.
Although this might sound counter-intuitive, a person suffering from depression needs support, not advice that can sound critical or judgmental. Remember, a person who is depressed already has a strong self-critical voice and negative self-beliefs.

Validation of how they are feeling (e.g., "You feel anxious and a sense of dread that this depression is never going to get better" or "It is so difficult for you to get out of bed every morning") and simply being there for them, ensuring they are not isolating themselves is the most supportive action you can do for them.
My own search to find the right therapist and my experiences in my personal therapy has helped me become more aware and responsive to the needs of other therapists seeking their own therapy.

I have found that working with the right therapist, (i.e., someone who is attuned and present in session, skilled, and has done their own personal work) has helped me immensely to work through unresolved issues and to identify and work towards my personal goals. It has also deepened my clinical work dramatically, in ways that I couldn't have simply done with consultation, or training workshops alone.
Longer sessions of 60 to 75 minutes can be arranged as necessary. The standard recommendation is weekly 50-minute sessions, although a different session frequency or session duration may be agreed upon. Seeing at least one pro bono client per week.

Clients are eligible if they are referred via Open Path Psychotherapy Collective, an initiative to provide affordable mental health care (at a rate of $30 to $60 per 50-minute session) to low and middle income families.Currently all my reduced fee slots are full. If you are in need of a low fee, you may check if you are eligible to become a member of Open Path Psychotherapy Collective.
