Welcome to the childrens' dental office of Weatherford Pediatric Dental Associates. We provide the highest quality of dental care to infants, children, adolescents and those with special needs. We believe that every child has the right to grow with a healthy smile and a lifetime of good dental health.

We emphasize the importance of early prevention, starting with the first dental visit at age one. Our goal is to make your child's experience as comfortable and positive as possible. For this reason, we have developed a unique state-of-the-art "kids" and "teens" oriented setting creating a fun environment from the time they walk into the office until the time they leave.

After a brief career as an accountant, Dr. Westfall decided his true calling was in the dental field. He graduated from the University Of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School in 1998. Following graduation, he spent 15 years working in community health clinics in Oklahoma and Texas providing dental care to underserved children and adults.
Our office, as well as the The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a "Dental Home" for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.
For more information concerning children's dentistry, please visit the website for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. It is very important to maintain the health of the primary teeth. Neglected cavities can and frequently do lead to problems which affect developing permanent teeth.

Primary teeth, or baby teeth are important for (1) proper chewing and eating, (2) providing space for the permanent teeth and guiding them into the correct position, and (3) permitting normal development of the jaw bones and muscles.Primary teeth also affect the development of speech and add to an attractive appearance.
If the procedure was in the lower jaw the tongue, teeth, lip and surrounding tissue will be numb or asleep. If the procedure was in the upper jaw the teeth, lip and surrounding tissue will be numb or asleep. Often, children do not understand the effects of local anesthesia, and may chew, scratch, suck, or play with the numb lip, tongue, or cheek.
Some children are given nitrous oxide/oxygen, or what you may know as laughing gas, to relax them for their dental treatment. Nitrous oxide/oxygen is a blend of two gases, oxygen and nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide/oxygen is given through a small breathing mask which is placed over the child's nose, allowing them to relax, but without putting them to sleep.
