DeLeon Judo was founded by Jim Santiago Deleon in 1970 through USJA. He has produced a number of National and International competitors who were very successful. In 2007, Sensei Henry Kaku took over as the Head Instructor after Jim Deleon retired. In 2008, Deleon Judo Club under the instruction of Sensei Kaku produced it's first Jr.
Our mission is to impart to our students not only the physical skills of Judo, but its philosophy and traditions. Judo, or "The Gentle Way" is a martial art developed by Dr. Jigoro Kano which makes use of the principles of leverage, balance, movement and making use of the opponent's strength. It uses the opponent's power and weight to work against him and thereby to subdue him.

We have been visiting DeLeon Judo club for more than 5 years. Sensei Henry Kaku is an amazing instructor. He has done so much for my kids. From taking them all over California to Competitions to helping them train for high level competition.
This club is great for beginners as well as advanced players. If you want to just stay in shape, learn Judo as an art form or compete at the Junior olympics, this is the place to come. Sensei Henry has an extensive career in competition when he was younger. And now is a dedicated Judo coach and instructor.
They also have had many Guest instructors and Olympians

My son has been going here for about 6 months, and has had an amazing experience. All of the instructors are very, very friendly and positive. This is a non-profit club, and none of the instructors take payment for their time. I've seen my son's self-confidence grow already in only half a year, and very much look forward to seeing him continue as he looks forward to every Tuesday and Thursday so that he can go to Judo. Highly recommended for any parent looking to get their child involved in martial arts.

DeLeon Judo is a great club. I always get a magical feeling when I interact with the staff and students of this club. I've been working with Sensei Henry Kaku for several years and he always treats all students with respect. His doors are always open for an extra judo workout if you're with another club. If you are looking to explore Judo in the Petaluma area this needs to be your stop.
