Delaware Self Defense Academy is an authentic Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy with its headquarters located in Dover, the capital of the state. With being Delaware's only Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu network academy we focus primarily on teaching authentic Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to youth and adults of all ages.

Ronnie is a Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Professor and has over 40 years experience on the mats. His training background includes Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (both Gi and No-Gi), Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fighting, Scholastic Wrestling, Muay Thai style and Traditional Boxing. He has competed in and won Dozens of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments as well as many Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fights.
Yes, you can; however, it is not recommended. Jiu-Jitsu is not just an activity to try. It is an education no different than any other subject matter you wish to master. To become proficient, you must have dedication, passion and the willingness to understand this learning takes time. Therefore, we recommend all students attend classes for at least two years.

I gave a 1 Star review not because Ronnie is a bad teacher/instructor or due to the quality of this school. It is a great place to learn and my daughter loved it.
My daughter didn’t attend for 5 months due to a fractured knee (gymnastics not from this school). I continued to pay based on the contract. I did however refuse to continue paying with the school closed during this Stay at Home order from the State of Delaware. I didn’t agree to online classes and discussed this with Jenn. She was extremely rude and aggressive. I was advised they were going to contact their attorney to sue me for

My whole family trains at DCS and we love it! It brings us great piece of mind that our daughters are learning self defense techniques. The people that train there are wonderful and you will not find a Professor more dedicated to Gracie jiu-jitsu, his schools, and students. All of the instructors are awesome and the facilities are well kept. Training is offered for ages 3 and up (youth and adult classes). There are three locations: Dover, Camden, and Middletown, so there are options if proximity is a deciding factor. We feel very fortunate to have found DCS and intend to train there for many years
