Dr. Jacob was trained at Northwestern University and received specialty training in infant care at New York University. He is the only orthodontist on staff at Rady Children's Hospital, San Diego where he provides care for infants born with cleft lip & palate. Our team includes skilled staff with more than 40 combined years working with Dr. Jacob to make your care unique to your needs.

Services
Since 2010 in California, all State regulated Medical Insurance is required to pay for the orthodontic card of Cleft Lip and/or Palate patients. The only exceptions are for insurances not regulated by the State of California. Dr. Jacob is the primary orthodontist for the Cleft and Craniofacial Teams in San Diego.

Robert B Jacobs is extremely knowledgeable about his practice. The receptionists were very kind too.
My review is lower stars because after I took off my mask, Robert said my nose was crooked. He said I looked like I was bonked on the nose as a kid. It hurt my feelings so much, I couldn't stop crying.
I am insecure about it, but the nose comment hurt way more. I never have felt so humiliated at a professional practice.

Update: Dr. Jacob continues to be awesome! The friend I recommended 3 years ago took 2 of her daughters here and now they have braces too. We have since moved out of the area to the Inland Empire, but we still make the hour long drive down to this office. Now that my son is done with braces and in his retainers, the visits are not as often but we still make the drive because we love it here. Thank you Dr. Jacob and staff!!

Very personable and professional.
I went there in high-school for braces, and then when I got older I had to go back because my teeth had relapsed from not wearing my retainer.... SO WEAR YOURS!

Please check out the hidden reviews. I wish I had! Dr. J. can be very moody. I never knew what mood he'd be in when we came in. Simple questions would upset him. He would explain one path of treatment, and then seem to forget it by the next month. I started writing everything he said down so I could ask him about the changes. I heard him treat other clients poorly as well. Fortunately, my younger child is now with a much better, kinder and gentler orthodontist. It's a night and day difference and I'm so happy we're with someone else! Dr. Jacob's treatments were sometimes

My daughter has been coming here for years. Dr. Jocob is very good at what he does. My daughter was born with a cleft palate and he has been very on top of her treatment plan. Her teeth are perfect now. He has a great sense of humor and is very good with children. You will definitely laugh a few times before leaving.

My son is a new patient, just had upper braces placed a little over a month ago. Our experiences so far have been superb with Dr Jacobs & his office. It's refreshing to see a orthodontist that enjoys his job & spends time w/his patients & family. Other offices we've tried have left me w/an assembly line feeling, as we were ushered in & out of different rooms etc. This practice is not at all that way. My son is 8yr & he likes Dr Jacob, thinks he's "pretty funny". We are happy patients!

I wish I could rate Robert B Jacob 10 STARS!! As we all know finding a dentist and orthodontist can be very frightening. After many internet searches and phone calls I connected with Robert Jacob DDS office immediately. Very friendly and informative from the first phone call and the first visit to the office. My sixteen year old daughter actually looks forward to her monthly appointment. Dr Jacob is very funny and makes you feel very comfortable. I also love his thirty years of dental experience. I went to him fooled by the good reviews in yelp. Fortunately for me, my visit at his office was only a waste of time, which didn't translate into a waste of money! Luckily for me, after asking him couple of questions, he admitted that he can't help me, because I had "high expectations", i.e. he can't be in any way responsible for the quality of his job. Also, when I asked him about the results among his previous patients he said "I can't give you statistics, because people don't stay in San Diego, they move all the time." I find this laughable! Luckily

I concur with Allen C. I was older and paying for my own braces and "shopping around" and Dr. Jacobs office staff made me feel like it was a place where I could hang out with fun, caring people.
Dr. Jacobs is kind, yet direct, which can be intimidating at first. Your maintenance appointments are usually with one of the 3 gals working in the back, and they're so entertaining and good at what they do.
You're in great hands with these folks. And as another review states, it's never a dull moment.
I went here from '10-'11. They fixed everything in one year.

I got my braces on December 5, 2011 and so far, so good! Being 21 and paying for my own braces, I was weary of which orthodontist I should choose. Of course, my decision was heavily based off of my dental insurance (which saved me 2k on the braces).
Dr. Jacob's has a great sense of humor; I sometimes find myself challenging him with my own sense of humor... He does great work and I feel he genuinely cares about how my teeth turn out. I thought I'd write an update since I'm nearing my surgery date. I've now been coming to this office for almost 10 months! I never knew going to the orthodontist could be so much fun. It's never a dull moment! As happy as I will be when my braces come off sometime in the next several months, I'll be sad that I won't get to visit them any more. I guess I'll just have to make unannounced visits to just say hi.

The doctor and his staff are very friendly. The wait time is almost nothing. Scheduling an appointment is very easy. They are very flexible and work around your schedule. The office is very clean, open, and welcoming.
The financial piece of it is very convenient. They ask for a down payment but offer payments for the rest. And they also work with your insurance. I've had no problems with any of the process of getting the braces put on. The whole process is fast and easy as long as you follow the doctor&apos
