Shambhala Martial Arts is located in Brea, California, and has been serving the communities of North Orange County since 1995. Our students gather to our Dojang from nearby communities including Fullerton, Yorba Linda, La Habra and Placentia to practice self-defense and Tae Kwon Do from Grand Master Yang, a seventh degree black belt.

Shambhala students learn about respect and how to make life-enriching decisions that will stay with them through their lifetime. Shambhala Masters dedicate their lives to more than just teaching their students to excel in self-protection. Shambhala Masters also dedicate their lives to continually gaining a greater understanding of the age old wisdom of Shambhala and to share this secret wisdom with their students.

Grand Master Yang (pronounced Young) is a seventh degree Shambhala Black Belt. He was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. Master Yang was trained in Tae Kwon Do by Master Yoo, Byung Ho a 9th degree Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do in the city of Seoul. After serving in the Korean army, Master Yang came to the United States to educate himself on Western ways and to share his Tae Kwon Do skills and the Shambhala philosophy with Westerners.
We train our students how to protect themselves and the people they love, and most importantly, we train our students to make Life-enriching decisions for themselves. Shambhala Masters know that it does little good to teach self-defense to students who continually put themselves at risk through poor judgement and dangerous life-decisions.
Master Yang and Shambhala Martial Arts offers classes for anyone at any age or skill level. We specialize in Tae Kwon Do, an ancient form of the Korean Martial Arts, passed down for centuries from Master to Master. All of our programs teach Self-Defense, Mental Fitness and Personal Integrity. For Children from 3-4 years old.
Trial Class: If you are interested in trying a trial class, please come by the studio and speak with Master Yang. Birthday parties can be scheduled for any Saturday of the month. The cost is $300 for up to 15 children and $10 for each additional child. Included in the birthday party package are: pizza and drinks, a taekwondo lesson, games, and board breaking.

Over a year has passed since I began studying Tae Kwon Do at Shambhala Martial Arts. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my experience and I’m glad to be learning at Shambhala in Brea.
The Grand Master (Master Yang) is an incredible teacher. He does an excellent job of breaking down all of the lessons into small steps and developing students of all skill levels. Grand Master Yang’s passion for Tae Kwon Do truly brings a positive and fun energy to each class.
From the leadership to the students, everyone I’ve shared the mat with at Shambhala has been supportive and welcoming. It feels great

Both my daughters attend Master Yang's Dojan. Have been for years. I get a strong sense he genuinely cares for their development not only in martial arts but as human beings. Disapline and respect for others is a strong focus. Also, the trainers working for Master Yang are excellent. Shambhala has no doubt aided in my girls positive development. Highly recommended.

My family and I have studied at Shambhala Martial Arts with Grand Master Yang for many years. He is a remarkable instructor who integrates a high level of skill with a peaceful heart and wisdom well beyond his years. We choose this school among many competitors because of the family-oriented culture that Grand Master Yang and his staff and colleagues have built. We are honored to be not only his students, but to be treated as his family. If you are considering starting training as a beginner (adult or child), this is an excellent place to learn technique, self-defense, and conditioning in an environment

My kids have been coming to this studio for about 3 years. My eldest is a black belt now, and my 2nd is a red belt. Master Yang has been very patient, and is a good teacher of not only tae kwon do skills but also of life skills. the kids also have learned how to effectively use nunchuks and bo staff.
