Hi! I'm Michael Oliphant, Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Before I began studying Chinese Medicine, I was enjoying a reasonably successful career in Public Health (as the director of the Chicago AIDS Network for Dental Outreach), and a less successful career as a stand-up comedian. In 2005, a friend who was enrolled in Acupuncture school convinced me to take an introductory class.
I quickly became enamored of a medicine where every patient is treated as a unique individual, and the serious disease of the day (SARS) was successfully treated using ancient herbal remedies, when Western Pharmaceuticals failed. While pursuing my studies, I had the opportunity to move to Hong Kong for 6 months, and apprentice under Dr. Troy Sing, one of Hong Kong's leading acupuncturists.

As a health and wellness provider myself, I don't just go to anyone when it comes to a provider. Dr. Michael helped me sleep better, have less stress, strengthen my immune system, and have less soreness in my neck. He is easy to work with and I highly recommend his care! He has pretty awesome shirts too!

I started seeing Dr. Oliphant about a year ago and every time I leave there I feel a million times better than when I arrived. Dr. Oliphant knows his stuff and is always able to help my pain/issue and I leave completely relaxed and refreshed. If you're nervous about trying acupuncture, go to Yin and Tonic. I told Dr. Oliphant it was my first experience with it and he made me feel at ease and I haven't stopped going since.

Crazy story: So I was standing in my bathroom one morning a couple months ago doing normal bathroom stuff. I insist that I was not doing any crazy yoga poses or anything, just brushing my teeth and washing my face. A coughing fit came over me and my back was wracked with a sudden, very painful spasm in my left sacroiliac joint. I couldn't believe I could be in so much pain without a more dramatic story attached to it. I figured I should at least have to be lifting something heavy!
Anyway, Michael Oliphant had been recommended to me by numerous friends for helping get my new-found problem

I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Oliphant for about ten years, which is roughly the same amount of time I have also had the pleasure of dealing with acute lower back spasms brought on by such vigorous activities and EATING and SNEEZING (I am not event kidding), what can only be described as "are you f*cking kidding me" knee pain, and various other equally delightful odds and ends of physical maladies.
I have seen Dr Oliphant for a host of these situations, each time coming away from my acupuncture sessions feeling a lot more comfortable, notably relaxed, and, in some cases, completely

As a recent transplant to Chicago from the West Coast where I experienced many years and many treatments of acupuncture and various other forms of "non western" healing as they are as plentiful as Starbucks, I have to say that I have never experienced a practitioner with the depth and breadth of knowledge, its application, and expertise as Dr. Oliphant. Again, Ive been to A LOT of acupuncturists and have had many treatments from ok to really good. Dr Oliphant is excellent. He is extremely professional and thorough. His knowledge of the endocrine system, fertility, sports medicine
