Vanh Dy's Asian Restaurant & Lounge

The food was great but service was horrible. We’ve been three times over the past 6 months and somehow ended up with the same horrible server. We always sit downstairs but how to we end up with the older red headed angry lady every time. She is not attentive and seems overwhelmed with more than two tables. Can’t even seem to get us water without asking multiple times. And the issue for me is that this is not my first experience with her. I’ve never had a good experience with her as a server. The food is amazing but time for us to go some place else.

Ashley is so obsessed with the Tom Kha soup she made a meal of it last time.
More an more often we find ourselves heading south to Columbia (instead of north to Nashville) & Vanh Dy's is one of the reasons why!
Oh, and try the Prawn Crackers!
They are as ubiquitous internationally at SE Asian restaurants as chips & salsa are in Mexican restaurants.

I love this place. I'd walked right past it a few times and didn't even know it was there. Go upstairs if you can though you will generally need a reservation to do so. Very cool atmosphere and delicious food.

Chicken and broccoli with jasmine rice and two spring rolls for $12? You can't beat it for the price. You also can't beat the flavor. You can pick your heat kevel. I ordered "hot". Awesome!

Honestly, I would skip out on this place. Weighing out the good and the not-so-good, the scales tip in the direction of not-so-good. The food was less than deserving of its price tag, the drinks less so, and don't even get me started on the service. In the words of my partner, "every time I've come through here, it's never the same staff", and it's easy to understand why. The entire time, our server had a rather upset look on their face, and their pace wasn't any slower than a notch below a jog. They didn't seem knowledgeable on the menu when asked what comes in dish XYZ, and when asked what spirit

Absolutely delicious! Relaxed atmosphere and great service. The food was outstanding. We heard about the piano lounge upstairs but didn't get to check it out this particular visit. We can't wait to go back!

We haven't been in since before Covid, and forgot how great this place is. Best cocktail list and draft beer selection of any full service restaurant in Columbia. This is definitely our new go-to spot for date night.
Our server wasn't overly attentive but she was fine. Someone who did stand out was the host working, named LaKameron. He was so polite, warm, friendly, and seemed to be really enjoying helping the customers he was seating and at the same time confirming reservations and helping walk-ins with to-go orders. I hope he's being well compensated because he is an absolute gem of an employee

This place is amazing. Quality of food, service and drinks are off the charts. You come here and the owners walk around and makes sure you are happy. The staff go above and beyond and then the food! I've tried thing from classic Thai dishes to the steak and all are amazing. Honestly this is the best steak in Columbia. If you have never been, you have to try it. And please go up to the 2nd floor with the bar. Great atmosphere. Like a little Nashville.

I have heard a lot about this place since moving to Columbia, but was a little disappointed! My mom was in town, so we decided to give it a try.

She got the Pad Thai with Chicken and I got the Broccoli Stir Fry with Chicken. We were asked to both pick a heat level and we chose Medium.

After getting my meal, I didn't quite understand the heat level since there was no heat to it all. Her Pad Thai was the opposite and was a little too hot for her! F to be meal was still tasty tho!

I got a Muletown Mule to drink and it was great! It was a Bourbon version of a Moscow Mule. So good!

This isn't real Vietnamese food. Pho was gross. Overcooked meat, broth had a funny taste, ingredients looked old. Go to Franklin or Nashville for the real stuff. Never again

We moved to Columbia this past spring, but we visited Vanh Dy's even before we moved here. We were very impressed by the quality of entertainment they have upstairs, with a jazz band entertaining us the first time. We enjoyed their selection of whiskey, and their menu offers something for everyone's tastes.

We have been back a few times, bringing out-of-town visitors with us several times. Their pho and curry are very good.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

The food was excellent. Multiple servers helped us. One was excellent, one, not so much. There was a long delay between appetizers and entrees. It was not as expensive as I had anticipated and the experience was on par with this.
The ambiance was good. They clearly put a lot of thought in to it and worked with the space. It made me think of a couple of restaurants in San Francisco I visited in the 90's.

I absolutely love the drunken noodles, the drinks are unique, the waitstaff is personable, the owner will come to your table to make sure everything is made to your satisfaction. The decor is styling.

My new favorite local place!!! Good food and the best Old Fashioned anywhere. The lounge music upstairs is awesome. Natasia is a fabulous singer along with Lester on the drums. Love it!

Service was great but the food was ok. Love the chicken skewers though. The Lard Na was a bit too sweet for my liking. Not sure if I'd come back though. I only came to this location because it was across the iconic Hannah Montana building

Each dine in experience has been wonderful! Staff members are so friendly and the their food is always amazing!

A week driving on the road from Los Angeles to Tennessee and another week living on a farm, finding a Laotion spot in this area was the last thing I expected. Going to and discovering that it was actually pretty good was even more unexpected. And I'm not just saying this because my expectations were low. LOL. The papaya salad was delicious and extra spicy just like we ordered and the house-made sausage didn't shy away from the strong flavors I've grown up experiencing from eating SE Asian food. The chef even came out to talk to us and make sure we weren't dying from the heat

Hands down the BEST Asian food in the greater surrounding area. I had 3 other fellow foodie friends recommend this place & it may have turned me into a Asian food snob. Romantic atmosphere. The staff were extra attentive that it was our anniversary. Classy & delicious place. Highly recommend.

The food was good. The service was less than. The waitress did not know the food on the menu and wasn't familiar with Asian food in general. I typically get hot tea (jasmine or green) and asked of they had it. She offered earl grey or lemon. I opted for lemon which she never brought.

Great place to mingle and enjoy amazing southeast Asian food. Love the food, the ambiance, and the people all around. Much deserving of a 5 start, but my babe hyped me up about this amazing coconut cake dessert and say they're out. have to deduct a star.

We love everything about this place! Food, service, amazing signature cocktails, the environment, the owners= All wonderful! We also love and appreciate that there is a beautiful upstairs and rooftop space that is 21 and up! We go here very often and always look forward to it! P.s. Alex makes an old fashion to beat the band! They don't skimp on ingredients either!

First Friday last month my husband and I walked in and asked to be sat and the lady upfront was very rude about them not taking anymore tables for the night. It was 9pm and they close at 10pm. Tonight.... this first Friday we walked in and had no problem waiting. The lady asked if I would wear a mask. I have a condition that does not allow me to wear one. The host then continued to ask what my condition was in front of a group of people. That was absolutely out of line and disrespectful. They then refused service to me and my family. We loved this place and will NEVER be back because of the customer

Had this one on my wish list for a while so while my son was visiting last week we thought we'd try something new. Vanh Dy's was a great choice for variety but the Laotian influence on the menu here is the real draw. OK first off...I love papaya salad, I fell in love with it at a French Laotian restaurant in Charlotte and have had it all over the world with this caveat...."You can't make it hot enough." Ironically I did not issue that challenge Friday night, my son and I both ordered it "hot" as you can order any dish here at 4 different spice levels. Neither

This restaurant is flavorful and well presented!! The Penang Curry tasted just like you were eating on that island in South Asia. The papaya salad was spicy and full. They also serve Pho that was tasty. Everything fresh, everything had TLC in every dish. The signature cocktails are well done. The decor is like you would experience in an upscale urban city.
Please disregard the previous posts that give this establishment a low rating... they don't know what they're taking about nor have they experienced world travel!! LOVE this place... go for the music and the experience!

This is a really nice place. They have a great atmosphere and very nice staff. All the food was extremely good. The service was fast and they were very helpful in explaining the menu. This is definitely somewhere you need to check out.

Columbia you have wowed us!
Incredible space from top to bottom including upstairs rooftop outdoor patio, indoor seating looking over the street ( think Grey's on Main upstairs with upstairs bar) craft cocktail menu courtesy of the wizards at Patterson House. Fusion Asian Thai/Vietnamese and they graciously combined two items for me. All the food was very fresh and flavors were astounding. Soup could have been a little warmer and chopsticks as an option on the table would be great. Sounds like the piano bar is hopping well into the eve Thursday to Sunday.

Fantastic first experience at Vanh Dy’s. The staff is friendly and helpful. Even a waiter serving another table overheard our question and told us about a menu item. We each ordered a lunch entree which is served with a spring roll and house soup, and is plenty large portion size. We’ll definitely be coming back to try the Pho, Banh Mi burger, Curries, and Phoritto Wrap!
