Associated structures in your head, neck and face (including but not limited to your teeth). TMD is a medical problem that is often referred to as "TMJ, " an abbreviation for "temporomandibular joint." It can arise due to problems with your bite, muscle strain or imbalances, or damage to tissues in the head, neck and facial area.
Research shows that there is usually more than one factor that is responsible for TMJ-related pain and dysfunction. Having successfully treated over 19,000 patients inover 30years, we also know from our own clinical experience that this is true. Because TMD can coexist with other medical conditions, diagnosis can be challenging.
TMD is often called "the great imposter" because TMD signs and TMJ symptoms can mimic dozens of other disorders. Women of child-bearing age are most often affected, but men and children can suffer from TMJ-related pain too. TMD can have a single cause or many causes. In addition, TMD can often coexist with other potentially related disorders.
With more than $1.2 billion spent on prescription pain relievers and 700 million man-days of work lost each year, the consequences of failing to accurately diagnose TMD are all too real for patients. Overlapping, subjective symptoms. Musculoskeletal, neurological and neurovascular involvement. The very real emotional and psychological toll of being in chronic pain.
We treat the cause of you TMD problem (not just the symptoms). While there is no "cure" for TMD, there are proven effective therapies that can help you control TMJ-related pain, regain proper jaw joint function, improve your overall health and enhance your quality of life.
For each patient we develop a complete, individualized, multi-disciplinary TMJ Rehabilitation Program that successfully treats TMJ-related pain and dysfunction -without surgery or prolonged drug therapy!Clinical Treatment is utilized to achieve maximum improvement of symptoms and pave the way to healing.

I have had TMJ, facial pain, sleep and apnea issues for over 20 years. As with most things these conditions have become more complicated with age. I am so happy that Dr Hoelzer has shown a great concern and understanding of my unusual jaw and pain situation. He listens very closely, explains with clarity and lets you know he cares about you. Also his staff is excellent as always. Thank you and welcome to Oklahoma

I love this place. I have gone here since I was 26. I am now 63. They have helped me so much with my TMJ problems and have helped me prevent jaw surgery. I love their staff. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Dr. Tally was such a kind person and I love the new Dr, they have now Dr. Hoelzer. I was just in Wed, to have my appliance adjusted, and treatments on my jaws. Debbie was the one who helped me and she’s been there since I started going in the 1980’s. I would recommend this office to anyone who has TMJ problems and I have to many people, through my years of going.

I have suffered for over ten years with an issue that I thought was related to my ear/Eustachian tube(fullness, popping/grinding noises, etc.). It was miserable! I suspected it could be related to teeth grinding, and finally the fourth ENT I saw suggested it was most likely my jaw. I spoke to my dentist who referred me here, and I wish I had found them years ago! They are extremely thorough, knowledgable, and professional, as well as very caring. You can tell they take their jobs seriously and truly want to help you get better. I am part way through my treatment and have noticed definite improvement in my symptoms. Thank you!
