Chapter 7 bankruptcy is what most people think of when they think of bankruptcy. Your debt is wiped out by order of the bankruptcy court. You never have to pay it back, even if you win the Powerball Lottery down the road. You have to "qualify" with regard to your household income to file a Chapter 7, but for most people who come into my office, this is not a problem.
The most commonly filed bankruptcy in the United States is a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, with Chapter 13 being the second most commonly filed. A Chapter 13 is a reorganization bankruptcy for individuals or a married couple. Under this Chapter, you propose a plan in which you propose to repay a percentage of your debt to your creditors with the help and protection of the bankruptcy court.
The Detroit Bankruptcy Court is located at 211 West Fort Street in Downtown Detroit. 341 Meetings are held on the 3rd Floor and the Bankruptcy Judges as well as the clerks office is located in the upper level floors 17 through 19. Most of my clients live in metro Detroit and therefore must attend their court hearing in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan located in downtown Detroit.

Mr. Metzen and his team are great. Mr. Metzen explained the whole process and kept me informed throughout the process and answered all of my questions patiently. Mr. Metzen has answered and returned all my calls promptly. Walter and his team are phenomenal. He throughly explained the process and eased all of my worries. Let’s be honest, finally accepting the fact you have to file for bankruptcy is a difficult decision. Having a professional to provide those additional insights is tremendously helpful.
