The history of Honigman began when Jason Honigman, a Russian immigrant, and Milton (Jack) J. Miller, born in Baltimore, Maryland, decided to create the firm Honigman Miller in 1948 in Detroit's First National Building. Alan E. Schwartz joined Honigman and Miller in 1952, and Irwin Cohn became the last of the founding partners to join the firm in 1961, thereby forming Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP.

While they were known for their legal intellect, it was their understanding of their clients' industries and business goals that made their advice more than simply an adherence to the law. In 2015, the firm combined with Schopff & Weiss, a Chicago-based litigation firm, establishing a Chicago office and in 2020 opened a Washington, DC office.

In response to the Court of Justice of the European Union's (CJEU) recent Schrems II decision that, among other things, invalidated the Privacy Shield Framework (previously covered in The Matrix), various agencies of the US Government co-published a White Paper providing background on US intelligence agencies' data collection activities and limitations thereon.
Sixteen of Honigman's key practice areas are ranked nationally by U.S. News - Best Lawyers "Best Law Firms." Ranked among the top 10 law firms in the country for intellectual property patent work in The BTI Consulting Group's report entitled BTI Intellectual Property Outlook: Changes, Trends and Opportunities in IP & IP Litigation.
Honigman is ranked in Band 1 in the key practice areas of Corporate/M&A, Intellectual Property, Litigation, Real Estate and Bankruptcy/Restructuring by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business 2021. Honigman and its attorneys have been recognized by clients, peers, and the media for leadership in various endeavors.

Beautiful building that only adds to the awesome back drop of Campus Martius Park. From business to shopping to eating it can be found here inside the Honigman building.
