The Animal Clinic opened its doors in the summer of 1983 as a mixed animal practice with only one doctor. In 2004 the practice limited itself to small animal only with 4 full time doctors. Today The Animal Clinic employees 7 veterinarians who together share over 122 year of veterinary experience. Our mission is to provide quality, progressive veterinary medicine to the East Tennessee region.
As a multi-doctor practice each doctor offers different professional expertise which fits together to create an expansive portfolio of veterinary skills.

Jamie Carroll is the full time groomer at The Animal Clinic with over 30 years of experience grooming both dogs and cats. In 1988 she started her apprenticeship at Lori's Pet Grooming in Marietta, GA. In 1990 her family moved to Egypt and Jamie continued grooming dogs over seas. After moving back to Tennessee in 1993 Jamie worked for Critters and Creatures for 3 years before joining our clinic full time.
At The Animal Clinic we understand your anxiety about leaving your family member behind for the day or week. We strive to treat every pet like our own and we know your dog or cat deserves comfort and quality care when you are away. Also you deserve peace of mind, knowing your pet is being cared for by a highly compassionate team of caregivers focused on your pet's wellness, comfort, and safety.
A stethoscope will be used to listen to your pet's heart. Early signs of heart disease include heart murmurs and abnormal rhythms. If necessary an Echocardiogram in office will be recommended which will then be assessed by a board certified Cardiologist. Early detection can lead to identifying underlying conditions and management of disease with medications or a referral for advanced care.
It is The Animal Clinic's number one priority to provide for the needs of our clients and make every effort to make our facility and its medical services as available to them as possible. We believe that our urgent care services are an important part of living up to that mission.
We understand that not every need can wait on an appointment which is why we provide the ability for our patients to see a doctor as a walk-in client during all business hours.Additionally, for pet owners that find it difficult to set up appointments outside of their work hours, we are here to provide your pet with our full range of wellness services.

Our staff at The Animal Clinic of Athens understands that the decision to allow your pet to undergo surgery is never an easy one. This is why we make every effort to make that decision as comforting and stress free for both you and your pet. We offer advanced surgical techniques and technology. Every patient is carefully screened to ensure their health and safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet.

We had a difficult situation with a furry family member. I can honestly say, they couldn't have done a single thing better. The only "bobble" if you want to call it that was a new staff member that provided inaccurate information. A fellow staff member came over and addressed it quietly with the new team member and we were right back on track. Otherwise they were friendly, respectful, and compassionate.
With my limited interaction, I would tell you that the care we received was superior in every way compared to some "competition" locally.
I would recommend them without reservation. They made

When my dog got hit by a car a couple months ago, my wife wouldn’t have it any other way than to take her to the vet. I get it, she wasn’t walking well and would yelp trying to stand up. We were new to the Athens area so my wife did a quick google search and The Animal Clinic of Athens “stood out” to her, I don’t understand that but whatever. Lol. We had to wait a while but it wasn’t too bad. As soon as we were brought into the exam room Dr Naylor sat on the floor with her, gave her so much love, and treats while doing her exam. She was so gentle and went at Yeti’s pace when going

Website shows they are open until 5.. Now, I'm fully aware vets are busy especially on the weekends. About 3:15 PM yesterday, my cat of almost 17 years old started dragging his feet and panting. Unfortunately, I already knew what had to be done. We called here in hopes to get in somewhere close by home since he was already in pain. We were told they had too many people and cut off anyone coming in so they could leave by 5. Only to be told to go to an emergency clinic. If you have pets, you know how expensive these can be. In a time like this, you want compassion and you want the vet to step up

If I could give you zero I would! Instead of doing an allergy test to find out what she was having mild reactions to you decided to give her a steroid shot on top of other meds. I awaken at 6 am the next day to my poor girl being in distress. Covered in hives, eyes swollen almost shut, labored breathing. I tried to call to see if you had an emergency number and you didn’t. I ended up having to drive 45 minutes to another vet where I learned you could actually have allergy testing done on your dog to make sure they’re treated accordingly. You made it sound like the only option to find out if

They were wonderful to me and my Gracie. Even though we lost her in her cancer battle, I couldn't have asked for a more caring vet and team. They tried tirelessly to save her and gave her and me all the love and peace we needed. Thank you all.

My aunt has taken her animals here for a couple years and absolutely raves about this place. I just started taking my dog here and I also really liked it. My dog can be difficult and they did a good job with her. The staff is friendly and seems to really care about your animals. Everything is also very affordable.
