Helping people overcome obstacles and create the lives and relationships they truly want - that has been my passion for over 30 years. Here you will find a warm and compassionate space to work on yourself or your marriage, where your feelings and concerns will find acceptance, understanding and expert guidance.

Working with Dr Zwerdling was a wonderful experience. I was able to face things in my life I never could before. Over the years I've worked with a few therapists and truly, Dr Zwerdling was the first person I felt I could take on my problems with. Zwerdling's approach, understanding and handling of my problem was far superior to the other two therapists I worked with.
Services
Dr. Alan Zwerdling received his Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maine in 1984, a program fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). While there, he was awarded a special commendation from the psychology faculty for overall clinical and academic excellence.
I know how hard it can be to ask for help, to find someone to talk to that you can really trust. Even more, I understand the courage it takes to allow yourself to be vulnerable, to let your guard down and open up about the things that we struggle with the most, the things that we typically keep to ourselves.
Have you lost interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy? Do you feel fatigued, have trouble sleeping, or notice a change in appetite? Do you just feel blah, like you've lost your mojo? These are common symptoms of depression, a problem mood state that can hijack your life and interfere with your happiness and well being.
While occasional anxiety is an expected part of life for all of us, people with anxiety disorders feel like the anxiety just won't go away and often feel it getting worse over time. Some people struggle with panic attacks, sudden periods of intense fear that come on quickly and unexpectedly. Other people struggle with social anxiety, public speaking anxiety, or specific phobias like fear of heights or flying.
Separation and divorce is one of the most profoundly stressful life events a person can go through. It can be devastating to lose a marriage and break up a family - it impacts every part of your life and everyone that you love - children, parents, extended family, in-laws, friends and neighbors. Whether you wanted the divorce or not, the experience is life changing, and adjusting to those changes is difficult.

We found Dr. Zwerdling to be empathetic but non-judgmental. He helped us see some relationship patterns detrimental to our marriage which we try to work on daily. He kept us together and we recommend him highly. He also has a great sense of humor.

I highly recommend Dr. Alan Zwerdling for anyone seeking help with couples therapy. He employs a technique called Emotional Focused Couple Therapy, which was developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. We found is approach to be highly effective in helping us see where we tend to get "stuck" in our patterns and how to break through. Alan is definitely one of the most empathetic and non judgmental therapists I have known, which helps to allow a space for you to open up in.

Dr. Zwerdling is a wise and compassionate marriage counselor. I am grateful that my husband and I found Dr. Zwerdling. He listened to our challenges in a smart, patient, non-judgmental way. Some of our issues were frankly very boring and dull, and I'm amazed that Dr. Zwerdling brought both intelligence and the patience of a saint to our sessions.

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary last year, but a few years ago we were at a terrible point in our marriage. I was about to lose the love of my life. I reached out to Dr. Z in the desperate hope that he could help us find our way back to each other.
From our first session Dr. Z made us feel hopefull. The sessions were often wrought with emotion, and we learned more about our relationship and each other than we could have ever understood without his insightful guidance.
Dr Z. taught us how to build connections to each other, and foster a loving relationship. I don't know if

Dr. Zwerdling's unhurried presence makes it easy for one to open up. He helped me during a particularly stressful time in my life and suggested ways to cope that I hadn't come across prior to meeting him. Highly recommend.

I was a patient several years ago at a time of my life that I had no way to control several circumstances I was navigating. The attention and support I received helped me to focus on what I still had control of, myself. The Doc (as I coined Alan Zwerdling), was supportive, accommodating when I needed to change our schedule, and did so much to teach me how to use tools I never realized I had and provide me with new ones. I highly recommend him for anyone trying to navigate personal or relationship issues.

I saw Dr Zwerdling for over a year. It came at a time when I was having major relationship issues and needed an unbiased opinion and outlet. Dr Zwerdling was a tremendous help. He listened. Didn’t cast judgement. I eventually made tremendous changes that have given me peace of mind. Thanks to Dr Zwerdling I managed through an extremely challenging relationship and will never look back
