Kirsten received her B.S. degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College in 1989, and an Advanced Master's degree in orthopedic physical therapy from Quinnipiac University in 1995. She became orthopedic board certified by the A.P.T.A. in 1996 and Pilates certified on the comprehensive rehab track from Polestar Education in 2004.
As orthopedic specialized physical therapists, we provide a unique experience to our patients by combining traditional physical therapy methods with the exercise approach of Joseph Pilates. Modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, moist heat, and ice are utilized to facilitate the healing of injured structures, and to decrease joint and soft tissue inflammation, spasm and pain.
Many of our physical therapy clients progress into the wellness side of our business - others start and stay on the wellness side. Sessions entail the mat repertoire of Joseph Pilates and the use of "props" such as rings, foam rollers, and balls for deep core strengthening and mobility work. Our small classes allow for personalized coaching and monitoring as well as camaraderie.
Draw the chest and abdominals up from below and keep the shoulders set down towards the back of your hips. Lay on your back with your spine long and pelvis neutral (there should be a little space under the lower back). Lift one leg towards the ceiling and circle it clockwise 10 times (cross the midline of the body), then counter-clockwise 10 times.
For us to bill for physical therapy, you need to have a physical dysfunction related to pain, weakness, or limited range of motion. Most of our physical therapy clients receive modalities and manual techniques to address areas of soft tissue and joint dysfunction, and all are guided through Pilates strengthening on our equipment.
