Open Door Preschool is a not-for-profit, parent-directed school whose mission is to enhance the growth of each child by encouraging a positive self image, promoting independence from home, and fostering the development of responsibility in a non-sectarian, child-centered environment. Since 1964, ODP has provided a nurturing environment for children 14 months through kindergarten.
It remains unique as the only parent-run, non-sectarian preschool in the CSRA. True to its history, it continues to be a non-profit organization. Open Door strives to develop a listening ear, encourage a trusting response, and stimulate a joyful curiosity in the seeking of knowledge which will be guided on to more disciplined work.

Services
In 1964, a group of parents opened the first integrated kindergarten in Augusta, GA. No child was turned away due to their ethnicity or religion. It was the only school with an 'open door' policy and was entirely administered by the parents. For more than 50 years, Open Door Preschool has continued to provided a nurturing environment for children 14 months through Kindergarten.
Open Door Preschool offers half-day programs for children ages 14 months to five years old. Flexible options allow parents to have mornings off while their children receive excellent educational experiences. Class sizes range between 10-15 students with 2 teachers in the younger classes. Our small class sizes ensure that students receive individualized attention.
As a nonprofit organization, the preschool is only able to cover a portion of its expenses through tuition. The rest of the operating funds come from grants and indiviual donations. The preschool has many needs and likes to provide the students with creative supplies and toys as well as introduce them to new experiences whenever possible.

I went here as a child and now my son attends Open Door - I love the teachers, the curriculum is the perfect balance of free play & structure and learning & fun, and the staff go above and beyond to make Open Door an enriching place for both students and their parents. They have extracurriculars like science class, movement, Spanish, and ballet that add to the multitude of activities. With few choices of preschool that are not religiously affiliated, Open Door provides fantastic exposure to a diversity of cultures, religions, races, and experiences for any preschooler. They brought my shy son out

When I was looking for a preschool, I was looking for a place that would feel like home! Safe, fun, comforting and a place where I felt like I had great communication with the teachers/staff! This place hit the mark spot on! The teachers were wonderful, the director and secretary were helpful and kind! I felt like my needs and my child's needs were heard and met! My child flourished there- she grew and learned and I knew she was safe and cared for and learning by leaps and bounds daily! I wish Open Door would go all the way up to middle school! You will not find the same level of caring and education

The teachers are great and work well with the children! The director on the other hand is completely disorganized. The school overall is handled in what she likes to refer to as "organized chaos" which is more like disorganized chaos. As I said the teachers are wonderful but outside the classroom is a wreck. I would look elsewhere leaving this as a last resort.
