After reading a disparaging review of Dr. Miller I feel compelled to share my own experience with him as a very kind, compassionate doctor. A few years ago I was feeding my kitten a piece of turkey when a screen door slammed in the wind the moment he swallowed, and immediately he staggered backwards and collapsed. I tried putting my pinky down his throat to dislodge any blockage but couldn't find anything. Within a minute his eyes were all pupil. I rushed his limp body to the nearest vet, where Dr. Miller took him immediately. There was no blockage - my kitten apparently had had a heart attack

Our dog got hurt and with our regular vet closed I called Makawao Vet and they received us with open arms. Dr Patterson and staff took really good care of our husky who broke her leg. She stayed overnight, got a splint the next day and we were able to bring her home. I'm so happy we went to Makawao Vet!

Staff and management seems to have changed over the last several years... Not for the better. The front office staff is always friendly and helpful and the after hours emergency care my pet received (female dr.) was wonderful, I have to give the lowest rating possible because of how the clinic is currently being managed. My experience at Makawao Veterinary Clinic was wonderful! I am the owner of Maui Pet Boarding and have been a dog handler for over 19 years. I have been to many different vets on Maui over the years. On this particular visit, I brought my own pets in for vaccinations and teeth cleaning. When I arrived Trevor greeted me with a big smile and a friendly good morning. We had an issue with our dog called the emergency line within 5 minuets got a call back explained to the DR what was going on and they reassured us he sounds like he has an upset stomach. I like the fact that they just didn't tell us bring him in and charge us a bunch I'm glad they took the time to figure out if we needed to bring him in or not.

I have been taking my pets to Makawao Vets for 8 years now. I must say that you will get different treatment from different vets. Some even contradict each other in diagnosis. We have settled on Dr. Owen, who is very competent, compassionate, and does not order more tests than necessary. She lets us know what each treatment will cost before we opt in. My big dog has a type of blood cancer and I know he is getting the best care with Dr. Owen. We decided after our initial visit to give Makawao Vet another try as the staff is great and honestly, it is very close to home (emergencies, etc). We are so glad we did. We have had nothing but great experiences so far. Our doggies are still examined, have blood drawn and given shots out of sight but it seems to be less stressful for everyone (now I get it!)

Makawao Vet has always taken well care of my French bulldog Manga. We brought him here in the past to be neutered and for. AOL trimmings. Manga is skiddish of strangers and always freaks out when it's time to visit but all the staff is so patient and sweet to him. Been coming to the Makawao Veterinary Clinic since I was kid living in Kihei driving upcountry when my parents would take our Great Danes, Blue Heeler and Beagle to the vet. Years later as an adult, I'm still going to the Makawao Vet Clinic driving from town all the way upcountry for my own two dogs, so you know MVC is the only veterinary clinic for me and my family.

I took my pit bull to makwao vet clinic. My pitbull was sick, and makwao vet clnic couldnt understand what was going on. Constantly crying at night, and unable to walk, my pitbull has been the sickest ever.The vet seen there was no change in my pit bulls behavior , we kept our pit bull in their care for a few nights. The vet that told me the best thing to do was to put my pit bull to sleep. (After paying almost $800)

I arranged for Makawao Veterinary Clinic to meet my son and his dog at OGG when we flew in from California and they provided the utmost in service! Every step of the way, Tracy was on top of everything and Margaret was great when she met our plane. Although we live in Hilo, I would definitely trust Makawao Veterinary with any pet needs!!
