Utah Veterinary Hospital is owned and operated by Dr. Samuel Rivera. Dr. Rivera was born in Durango, Mexico, and grew up in beautiful Southern California. He attended the University of California, Davis, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, with an emphasis in Captive and Companion Animals in 2004.

I recently moved to this city and was worried about switching vets for my 2 dogs and cat. I’ve been bringing my animals to Dr. Rivera for a few different issues that came up, and have been pleasantly surprised by the staff. He charges fair prices and answers all my questions.

I’m very happy with the service I’ve received here! I’ve had to bring my rats in a few times over the past 6 months and they’ve been so good with them. Dr. Rivera and the staff are very kind and much more knowledgeable about rat care and medications than other vets that treat rats in this area. They’ve been super easy to work with and very understanding when it comes to voicing my concerns about treatments and scheduling.
They are in high demand and generally pretty booked up so I’d recommend calling at least a week in advance if you need you pet to be seen, but they also offer emergency

My wife and I recently got a guinea pig (Jet) and became worried when he developed a frequent cough. After some Google searching, we found the Utah Veterinary Hospital. We liked how much information their website provided us (not to mention the clean and easy-to-navigate layout of their website).
So we called their office and they were able to quickly schedule an appointment for Jet within 48 hours. Upon arriving, the front desk ladies checked us in quickly with absolutely zero waiting time for the exam room.

I have always loved my vet, but they are getting really hard to get into lately. I have cats that fight a lot and get abscesses and have had to use Pet Urgent Care for those. So we thought we’d try this place hoping to find a good vet with more availability.
Pros: was able to get an appointment within a few days. Staff- techs and front desk were very nice. These 2 factors are the reason for the 3 stars.
Cons: Cost. Lack of trust in the treatment plan.
The vet looked at my pet for a couple of minutes and then had the tech come back with an expensive treatment plan. The plan recommended a ton

Took my dog in for a back injury he had been seen for about a year ago. The vet told us he was paralyzed and would never walk again and couldn't even wag his tail. He was rude to my wife and repeatedly told her that if we would have brought him in for check ups, he wouldn't have lost movement of his legs and would be able to walk.
When we took him in the first time a year ago, we were told the same thing and that our options were to put him down or have a $9000 back surgery.
Well after all this advise from the vet, my dog is back and walking again a week after taking him in. I can't find myself

Can’t say I’ve ever been more annoyed going to a vet appointment. My dog has had a limp on his front leg that comes after active play and takes days to go away, for the better part of a month now. Took them twenty minutes for the tech to come in. I explained all this to the tech who said well that sounds like an acl tear but I’m not a doctor. To which I said it’s his left front leg and front legs don’t have acls do they? So he agreed and said so it’s the right front correct? And I said no, it’s the left front. Then he said he’d go get the dr which took another twenty five minutes

Best Vet Office ever! I rescued a chihuahua and her teeth were in horrible condition. I took here for them to take a look at them. They were so gentle with her. She ended up needing surgery on her mouth. They were fast and safe with her surgery. She is now happy and healthy! Thank you so much for helping my sweet little mocha.

I love the doctor and staff of Utah Veterinary Hospital! They honestly treat me and my pets like family. Always very clear about what is going on with my pets, and costs associated with diagnostics and… treatments. Dr. Rivera is not only an excellent vet, he really does adore animals. We have stopped by a few times just to get loves from the staff and Doc. I strongly recommend this hopital, they will take wonderful care of your dog or cat.

Just got a letter from this place telling me to take down my one star google review. Telling me I violated a contract where I agreed to not post negative remarks. They say they will sue me if I don’t. Maybe I… need to be informing the Federal Trade Commission of this business violating the Consumer Review Fairness Act? Don’t let these people violate your free speech rights and intimidate you into silent.

I just had the absolute WORST experience with these people. They are completely mercenary, rude, a dishonest. They quoted me one price over the phone on two different occasions, then demanded more at the time of the visit. When I disputed the charges, they refused to give my dog back to me and called the police on me. They claimed they had the right to keep my "property" until I paid for their services. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THIS VET!!!!

Had my dog at a DIFFERENT animal hospital & their only option was to put him down. Brought him to Utah Vet hospital & they had just as much belief in Harley dog as we did 💜. After some tests &… ultrasounds/endoscopy with the help of vetmed consultants we still have our dog with us & is on the road to recovery. Dakota & the vet were so nice & caring.

They knew the diagnosis of my dogs biopsy and they still tried to charge me $200 for further "fungal" testing. They said i had 2 days before they were going to throw away the biopsy. I spoke to a neighbor about my dog and low and behold they did the same thing to her. Telling her she needed a fungal test as well on her dog(different issues) I had… them send all the information they had written down about my dog and I went to another vet.. the new vet said there IS a diagnosis they put it in the paperwork and sent me home with meds. My dog suffered for a few months after spending $500 at
