Perhaps you've explored self-help practices or other kinds of therapy - looking for a route to your better, happier self. Or, instead of just feeling "less bad, " you want to increase your sense of energy, freedom. Possibly, too, you're looking for something deeper.
Maybe you're exploring such questions as "Who am I?" or "What is this?" - and you want a therapist who can support you in this essential quest as well as help you with your current real-life struggles (e.g., anxiety, depression, relationships).I have known Charles Martin now for over three years, and during that time have become very familiar with his professional abilities and his character.

Services
I am a licensed psychologist in a full-time private practice where I provide psychotherapy, training and speaking services. Themes in my work include: discovering your true self and learning to live and work with freedom, vitality, joy, and purpose.
The psychotherapy and training workshops I offer are oriented to helping you discover what is essential and authentic in you; work through old pain and trauma; address blocks to living and expressing who you are; and find balance in your life and relationships.I work with you on concerns of identity, authenticity, life transition, meaning, and career/calling - as well as family of origin issues, loss, stress, trauma, gender, and sexuality.

Dr. Martin has been practicing psychotherapy for over twenty-five years and has worked with individuals to identify and work through lifelong blocks, to build a sense of resilience, and to discover happiness, pleasure and joy in their life and relationships. Among other topics, Dr. Martin has specialties in body-mind (somatic) psychotherapy, awareness training, and transpersonal counseling and psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy is an intensive professional relationship, and I see therapy as a partnership - with us working in a way that is tailored to your needs. My general approach to therapy is one of integration. As we work toward your personal development, we keep in mind that you are an embodied self, as well as a purposeful and social being - and that there is also something deep and essential in you.
Depression can range in milder forms from feeling blah or flat to more extreme forms where we have feelings of exhaustion, loss of interest in life, and even suicidal thoughts. Anxiety in its milder forms may mean we suffer from an ongoing sense of mild arousal ("on edge"), agitation, and worry.
With anxiety in its more extreme forms, we may feel we have no control over our thoughts, get spikes in blood pressure and heartrate, have a sense of panic, and we may even fear we are dying. Both depression and anxiety are treatable. Though you feel out of control of your life, counseling and therapy can help you regain a sense of being in charge of your life.

This could be a natural disaster, accident, abuse, or sexual assault. Right after the event, it's typical for people to feel shock or be in denial of what happened. In the long term, people who have experienced trauma may have unpredictable emotions (anger and fear are common), flashbacks, and difficulty in their relationships.
