Shaver Road Animal Hospital (SRAH) is a full-service veterinary hospital that has been serving the pets and pet parents of Portage for over 45 years. Here at SRAH, we don't believe in a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach to veterinary medicine. Our veterinarian offers very personalized and superior care to your dogs and cats because we know that your furry friends are more than pets, they are part of the family!
Education is also a passion of ours. While we do have an amazing team of skilled and compassionate individuals, we believe that the first step to a healthy and happy life for your pet starts at home. We are now accepting new clients/patients! Please visit our new clients page to find all of the resources you will need to get started with becoming part of the Shaver Road family.

As our temperatures fall through January and into February, we receive a lot of questions about how best to prepare your dog for the winter weather. Are those cute coats. Monday mornings at my house are always rough! No matter how much pre-packing, prepping and organizing I do with my boys, we always seem to struggle with last-minute backpack additions, .

Very friendly staff, responsive, and have always enjoyed going here for REGULAR check ups. But recently my dog has been struggling. bad. He has gone through a lot of testing with nothing to confirm what's wrong and I was told to come back in 4-6 months...and they are still unlikely to diagnose him (the new Dr's words). My dog is not eating, he is coughing and gagging (likely kennel cough which would've been from his numerous visits here) and very lethargic to the point of not even being able to get outside the house to potty but I cannot get any further assistance from this office. They are making

Dr. B and her staff are fantastic. Every single person goes above and beyond to get questions answered, help with scheduling conflicts and accommodation. Bella is so happy to go and everyone always seems so happy to see her and they treat her with the same love that we do! It's such a comfort to be able to count on them! Thank you isn't enough!

Like most vets in the area, it seems SRAH is also business first, vet second - a questionable ethic when it comes to the well-being of our pets. We stopped by to pick up heartworm prevention and the front desk wouldn't sell it to us without an appointment and test for heartworm. Considering our girl has recently been tested and had a complete physical, dogs are more at risk for not being medicated than being treated with the condition present. While HW prevention was once dangerous to give to dogs who might've been already infected, the medication has changed! In my opinion, refusing

One of only a couple vets in the Portage area, this one turned out to be the most convenient based on locale to the new homestead. The team at SRAH truly care about animals and are very open to your family's needs (ie. meds, pick-up, etc.) They offer lodging with flexible pick-up times on Sunday. Basically, if someone's there and you missed your pick-up window, don't be afraid to knock, they will try and accommodate. SRAH also sends out vaccination reminders. If you're looking for a new vet or recently moved into the area, I'd have no problem recommending SRAH to anyone
