The name itself actually came from a dear friend of ours who defined a "back eddy" as a current that runs counter clockwise to the mainstream. The ultra fresh produce from the many farms of Southeastern Massachusetts & Coastal Rhode Island; the wide variety of fish brought to shore by New England's Fisherman; wine, beer, & cheese from local artisan producers & the mixture of Portuguese influence with the oldest American cooking style, provides our kitchen with an incredibly diverse range to work with.

We were given a gift certificate for The Back Eddy. We drove 2 hours to get there, but it was worth it. It is very pricey, but worth the money. The food is fresh, cooked exactly how you want it, and served with a smile. The location is right on the water. There is outdoor seating, and a dock for standing on as you wait. Of course the seafood is fresh and prepared perfectly, but the steak was cooked on a wood fire with Bleu cheese butter. The deviled eggs from hell are do creamy and spicy and delicious! A must try item. Our server stayed on top of keeping our drinks filled and was very good at recommending

The one star is because of their lack of Covid protocols, not so much the food. Our kale Caeser salad, steamers and tuna were delicious. The halibut was overcooked. The scary part was that the staff was not masked and our server told us she has not been vaccinated. It is a dangerous place to eat. They do not inform you of any of this. We were among the few masked patrons and ate outside, but were appalled to learn about our server when we happened to ask.
I advise not going there, especially now that Westport Covid cases are increasing.

Ok I had to leave a review for this gem of a restaurant. As others have mentioned great service and food. One should defo visit if you are in the beach or even happen to pass by. Great for families and wait time is manageable, since you walk around and enjoy the view while waiting.
Egg devil was awesome!

We had our rehearsal dinner at The Back Eddy in August of 2019. I can't say enough good things about Sal and his crew. They 100% made it a night to remember. The harbor view, the wind coming off of the water. We were nervous because you never know what kind of weather you'll get in late August/September and the room is not air conditioned. It was perfect. They let my mom and sister design the room to fit our wedding theme which gave the room a personalized style for our rehearsal dinner. We cannot thank Sal enough for his swift communication and adjustments when people in our party couldn

Stunning sunset views from the back. We had a girls night at Horseneck beach and stopped in here to extend the fun. Our server was very patient with us. The oysters were very fresh and delicious. The sauce for the mussels should be it's own dish. So good. The hockey fries are a must and dessert was good too (banana split).

Awesome little restaurant near Horseneck Beach! We had to wait a bit for outdoor dining but it was worth it. There's a little outdoor bar you can grab a drink at while you wait with beautiful view of the Westport river. Definite island vibes at this place. Food & staff were fantastic. Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area!

Would have been appreciated if the owner would have moved forward with some creative covid conscious adjustments like other restaurants have done. Heating lamps, fire pit tables, ect..so that folks have the option to dine outdoors. When I inquired if they would consider heat lamps I was told that they "close in 3 months so what is the point."

Great experience-food was hot and plentiful and all courses timed perfectly. We had chowder and shrimp for appetizers, fish and chips, ribeye, burger and mussels for meals. French fries were off the hook and the bowl of pickles made my day!!! Got to watch a great sunset over the water and boats. Cannot wait to go back!!!

I would not run back, but I would certainly come back.
Our dinner started with one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. The outdoor seating was well spaced out, perfectly positioned towards the setting sun and had a personal hand sanitizer, great touch! If you are sitting outside make sure to bring bug spray because you will be attacked by no-see'em bugs. The Margarita had too much salt, but tasted great. I ordered stuffed clams which came out sizzling off the grille and also tasted phenomenal . The fish was okay, all dishes had a bit of an asian touch. All in all, the vibe

Stuffed quahogs had a really good mixture. Nice.
Chowder with good flavor but very thin body.
All grilled items charred way too far.
Grill operator had no obvious oversight from head chef.
Nice piece of swordfish with flavor wrecked and overridden by char. Kids burgers and buns charred way too far. Char is not a seasoning.
Head chef seemed cool and brought out a tuna tail to show the kids, but he needs to be the kitchen boss not the kitchen staff buddy.
I hate leaving a restaurant with regret, and I had high hopes.

Our first time in Westport my boyfriend and I decided to dine at The Back Eddy one evening. Other Yelpers advised making a reservation which we did but were unfortunately not able to get outdoor seating. We were seated next to a window so we still had a great view and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Our server, Nicole, was outstanding, friendly, and informative. We started with the Maine mussels and we could not stop saying how delicious they were. The sauce was unbelievably delicious. Nicole offered more bread to dip in the sauce and we did not waste any. I chose the salmon and my boyfriend went with

A great spot on a fabulous summer evening! Sitting by the ocean what a view and a PHENOMENAL sunset! Sometimes I really forget how fortunate I am to live so close to the ocean.
The cocktails were simple, so there isn't too much to say about that...so we'll just got straight to food!
Our server Beth was the AWESOME and this Bostonian was pretty excited she told us the soup of the day was LOBSTAH bisque (with a true Boston accent). Unfortunately, it was bland and it wasn't even topped with pieces of lobster-Myself and three others that ordered a bowl thought the same thing. We should

Can't beat the view of the ocean and boats. They have a small bar and seating outdoors or you can sit and get full service indoors and still see the views. The food was much better than 2 years ago when we last visited. The clam plate was excellent, the swordfish was excellent, and the lobster roll was good. Service and atmosphere is very good.

We ordered the steamers as an app which were good and no sand.
I ordered the ribeye steak ( which was a little pricey at over $30 for the smaller size) perfectly cooked medium rare and tasted great. I was avoiding the carbs and asked the waitress if I could have veggie instead of the starch potato or fries. She said sure that they had zucchini. Yes I went with the veggie. It was about 5 slices of zucchini which was fine....until I received the check and was charged 6 dollars! If there was a substitute charge I should have been informed when she recommended the substitute.

Great spot for lunch that's close to Horseneck beach. Came here late afternoon, had a minimal wait for outdoor table. The deck and the view is amazing, even just for drinks and to chill on a sunny day.
Got drinks initially at the outdoor bar while waiting for the table (cash only). Got a locally brewed lager which was quite good. Also got a Campari spritz (substitute for aperol) which was quite refreshing and good as well (recommended especially for people that don't like sweet drinks).
For food, we got the mussels which were amazing. The broth was spicy and had really good flavors

3rd or 4th time here. This is one of the very few bar/restaurants in the area hence the place is packed on nice weekends in the summer. The food is average and speed of service is hit or miss, but given limited area options one just has to deal with it. The 'local greens' salad was romain lettuce...it looked like something a hospital cafeteria would serve. Empty wine glasses collected dust at our table and the entrees took a LONG time to arrive. The glass side plates were heavily
