Shotokan Karate Academy
Please join us for the 32nd Annual ISKA Summer Camp, being held at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda, CA. Please contact us if you have any questions at info@santenkarate.com. Thank you to everyone who joined and participated. It was nice to safely get together in person with folks we haven't seen in real life for over a year!

We will definitely plan more of these. We covered a few topics - Ten no Kata, Kibadachi-no-kata, reaction drills, and some advanced Tai Sabaki drills. If you are interested in joining future events, please contact us. Please contact us to join the next one, TBD. We are opening the Teen & Adult classes up to in-person attendance, limited to 3 students.

Sensei Ricardo Llewelyn has been practicing Shotokan Karate since 1970. He holds a Kyu-Dan (9th Degree Black Belt) in Shotokan Karate and has been granted titles of Hanshi, Kyoshi, and Shihan with the International San Ten Karate Association (ISKA). Hanshi Llewelyn is the President of the ISKA, founded by Sensei Vincent Cruz in 1979.
Shotokan Karate originated in Okinawa, a small island south of Japan. It was popularized in Japan by Gichin Funakoshi in the 1950s. The name "Shotokan" comes from the name "Shoto, " which was Funakoshi's pen name, meaning 'waving or billowing pine'. Shotokan Karate is a traditional martial art. This means that improvements in character and mental discipline are as important as physical skill, if not more so.
We offer two classes for children: Tiny Tigers (ages 5-6) and an older Children's Class (ages 7+). Youth, ages 12 and up, are invited to join our General/Adult class sessions, depending on size, maturity, and where they feel most comfortable. Ranking continues to 10th degree Black Belt, which is generally reserved for the founder of a style or system.
We are offering virtual training during the pandemic for all levels, beginning through advanced, for Teens & Adults, ages 12 and up. Kitei (Created by Hidetaka Nishiyama and included in later editions of Sugiyama's 25 Shotokan Kata). There are numerous opportunities year round throughout the Bay Area and beyond to compete in Traditional Karate tournaments.
Please give us a call (707) 745-1275 or email us today to see how Karate can benefit you, your children, and your family. We are currently offering Children's Classes online only for the time being. Classes for Teens & Adults are currently being offered in a Hybrid format (running in-person and online concurrently).

That was a Blast! It seems as though you can get traditional training and leave the MCdojos behind with SKA, thanks Sensei! A great family feel here!
