Services
Some people may ask why you should preplan a funeral. The answer is quite simple. Time and time again, we sit with families who have lost their loved ones, who face the question "What did mom or dad want?" The loved ones that are left behind are often confused, whether to choose cremation, because you might have mentioned it once, or to have services in a church or funeral home.
Today many people, young and old, come to Knapp Funeral Home to pre plan their funeral and final disposition. The knowledgeable staff is ready to help you explore your options and provide price quotes so you can make informed decisions. Having your instructions recorded will give your survivors the peace of mind of knowing that they are following your wishes.
BUT: If you are in jeopardy of using all your assets to pay for expensive medical treatments or an extended stay in a rest home, then you need to pre pay while you can. See Title 19. When a funeral is prepaid in full at Knapp Funeral Home, the prices of our services and merchandise are locked in forever.
This decision may be especially difficult for you, yet deciding between burial and cremation is one of the first choices you must make. Disposition is the term used by the funeral industry to describe the final handling of the deceased's remains. Although your initial decision for the disposition of the body is between burial and cremation, there are several variations on each.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington, Conn. will dispatch a medical officer to our funeral home. This officer will inspect your loved one from head to toe and will document all visual scars, weight, height, eye color, etc. If this officer finds there is nothing suspicious regarding the death, he or she will issue a medical slip, permitting the cremation to take place.

My mother-in-law passed away in California this week and because of the pandemic and health risks, we were not able to travel to the funeral. While the funeral and shiva will be mostly virtual, we really wanted to light a 7-day memorial candle, but couldn't find one anywhere that would arrive in time. I called Matthew asking if I could purchase one, and he gave us the candle and wouldn't let us pay for it. We were deeply touched by such a kind and caring gesture.
