Cancellation policy: 24-business hour cancellation notice by telephone or text for follow-up visits. First office calls require a 48-business hour cancellation notice by telephone or text. Monday follow-up visits must be cancelled or rescheduled by the previous Friday; Monday first visits by the previous Thursday.
What is Acupuncture? Developed over 3000 years ago, acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin needles into specific points on the body. The needles work by stimulating, building, and unblocking energy and by helping the body return to a balanced and healthy state. Once the body is balanced, it heals itself.
What is The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy? Developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, Maya Abdominal Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive form of massage done on the abdomen, low back, and sacrum. The techniques help reposition organs that have shifted and now disrupt the flow of blood, lymph, nerves, and qi.
My acupuncture and Maya Abdominal Massage practice specializes in women's health and fertility and in the treatment of pain and digestion. I am one of the only practitioners in Oakland to offer a combination of The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage and acupuncture. I also have expertise in the treatment of chronic and acute pain, depression, digestive and respiratory conditions, and more.
For your first office visit, please print out, complete, and bring in the hard copies of the 1. Health History, 2. Consent to Treat, and HIPAA forms. Your first visit will take approximately one hour and 15 minutes; follow-up visits are approximately 50 minutes. I will review your complete health history.

I started working with Shirliey over two years ago and can’t imagine how I could have gotten through this time without her. I've been seeing Shirliey since 2015 and she's without a doubt one of the best acupuncturists I've seen. I have chronic back problems and other stress-related ailments and she's the first person I contact when they flare up. Shirley is an amazing healer! I was experiencing acute and mysterious hormonal issues that were very debilitating; within a few months my trouble was relegated to a non-issue and has remained dormant. I see her for maya abdominal treatment and acupuncture; she's great not just for women with fertility issues but any person with a hormonal/system imbalance. Shirley is expert at her work and puts you at ease. Friendly, open, listens carefully to all of your symptoms and is as invested in your healing as you are. The studio itself is very clean and comfortable.
