Services
Regular examinations are the key to keeping your pet healthy. Wellness exams help us develop a true picture of your pet's overall health, and are useful for detecting potential medical problems before they become difficult to treat. As a part of your pets examination we check your pet's heart and lungs, eyes and ears, examine the teeth and oral cavity, look for unusual bumps or growths, and test joints and muscles for pain and swelling.
In your search for a veterinary facility, we believe you should expect high quality care as well as great service. Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care. Our commitment to you is to offer this service in a modern, clean veterinary facility.
1. Payment is expected when services are rendered. In order to focus on our patients' needs, customer service and minimizing costs, we do not bill. 2. We accept debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) checks and cash. All cards must be signed by the owner of the card.

I just know they are friendly and courteous. Dr. Coiro is a great doctor and wonderful human being.
One of the other doctors, not mentioning names, is not so courteous, nor friendly. He may think he’s being professional, but it comes down to being rude and dismissive. Shows no compassion for the animals.

Horrible doctor. Two of my dogs died under his care at a very young age. He will not tell the whole truth about a diagnosis to keep you coming back and spending more and more money while your pup is suffering. My dog died gasping for air due to Congestive heart failure and pulmonary edema while all along he kept saying she had pneumonia! Cruel and inhumane person. I am a retired RN and am devastated because of his actions.

As a first time cat owner, I spent a lot of time researching vets. This location happened to be the closest and with the earliest available. I walked in ready to expect a vet who quickly sees my cat, rushes and is ready to bill for additional testing. The complete opposite happened. Dr.Baldino was wonderful. He took his time to examine and explain what was going on with my cat. He allowed me in the examination room and was very kind and gentle. He offered me all options, his fair advice and opinion on what was necessary and optional. It’s very hard to find doctors who care about their patients

This veterinary hospital was an amazing place to bring your pets and exotic pets. I'm EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED that the exotic doctor has chosen to no longer treat rabbits because they "TAKE TOO LONG". (The receptionist's words) There are so few exotic pet doctors on LI and it bothers me his reasoning. Why would you shirk your responsibility as a doctor? Is it for the money? Treating more dogs and cats is faster and more profitable than rabbits? If you don't want to take the time to see my loved one then I don't want to see you.

After years of wonderful, compassionate care from the very kind Dr Baldino we were shocked that at the end of our dog Ryan's life we would not be able to be with him as he was euthanized.
Horribly disappointed by this callous approach to end of life care. The owner of the practice blamed it on COVID-19.
We call several local vets who would allow to be with our Ryan at his passing.
They took the money for years but wouldn't allow a compassionate ending.
We took Ryan elsewhere to be euthanized.

For me this is the best Vet I got for my pet dog Max. The staff is so responsive and fast. Most of the time I was able to get my pet’s need done in less than 30 minutes and back home. Most affordable charges around This area !

We took one of our rabbits to have her eye examined. The staff was courteous and professional. After examination and some conversation with us, the doctor suggested that the cause of the irritation had run its course and that no treatment was necessary. He did offer the option of antibiotic drops if we were still concerned, but made it clear it was more for our peace of mind than medical necessity.

Smithaven Veterinary Hospital was recommended to me by the colleague who has 5 dogs and has been coming here for years. Dr. Ronald Coiro is amazing. Incredibly patient, caring and knowledgeable. My two yorkies (2yo & 11yo) had annual check-up and shots during the first visit and dental cleaning during the second visit. Cleaning was quick, flawless and cheap (30% of what I paid in Brooklyn)! The dogs were ready to go home by noon already. I still can't believe how cheap it was.
Highly recommended and we will definitively be back next year!

I had to make the very unpleasant decision to euthanize my dog. The staff was very compassionate. They gave me all the time I needed with her and didn't rush me even though I was the last patient for the day. They even sent a sympathy card signed by each staff member with a personal note. They made a difficult situation a lot more bearable

My boyfriend and I brought our 12 week old Cavalier King Charles to Dr. Coiro at Smithhaven Vet Hospital, and our experience was nothing less than fantastic. From the moment we walked in the door, all the women at the front desk were so welcoming and happy to see our little girl. They all gave her tons of love an attention, and she was wagging the entire time! We were taken in no time into the exam room, where Dr. Coiro met us. Im going to keep this short and sweet. This animal hospital is beyond incredible, the doctors and staff are amazing. It was our first visit and our beloved cat Bruce had to be hospitalized and eventually euthanized. Dr Baldino spent so much time with us explaining our options and showed nothing but empathy and compassion. He made a truly devastating situation a little easier for us. He was in constant contact with us while Bruce was hospitalized and I could tell he truly wanted to make Bruce better. Dr. Coiro has been the primary vet for my dog for a little under a year now. I switched to him after my dog was diagnosed with advanced heart failure that had been missed by her previous vet. He has been a wonderful provider for my dog and she is doing great under his care. He takes time to update me by phone regarding her lab results and answer all my (numerous and probably annoying) questions. The office staff is wonderful and treats my dog as if she were their own pet. I highly recommend this practice, and Dr. Coiro especially.

I highly recommend Smithaven Vet solely based on the work of Dr. Vincent Baldino. He is one of the kindest, most honest, caring vets I have ever had the pleasure of taking my pets to. I drive more than 20 miles from my home to reach his office, probably passing dozens of other vets on my way because of the quality of care and kindness provided by Dr. Baldino.
My interaction with the other vet, Dr. Coiro, has been limited but he has always been cordial.
However, among the support staff, an elderly blonde haired woman in particular has been rude, nasty, and far from helpful.
