A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet.
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by your dentist at your initial dental visit. Examination of diagnostic X-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions. Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
Intraoral cameras are changing the face of routine dental appointments. The intraoral camera gives the patient a unique view of each tooth - enabling them to understand diagnoses and make informed treatment decisions. The intraoral camera is connected to a computing unit at the side of the dental chair.
Tooth decay can be extremely painful and puts the teeth at risk. Many extractions and restorative treatments are performed every single day because tooth decay has become too severe for the tooth to be saved. Diagnodent is a safe fluorescent laser that detects hidden tooth decay accurately, quickly, and in its earliest stages.

"Doctor Rob" has been my dentist for well over 20 years. He is a highly skilled professional, kind, caring and has a great sense of humor. I've had just about every dental procedure you can imagine over the years including weekend emergency work on a very painful cracked tooth during a huge 12"+ snowstorm - he opened his office and met me there! I visited Dr. Schmitz for the first time yesterday; I highly recommend this practice. Everything from beginning to end was professional and appropriately focused on me; the patient. The women at the front desk made scheduling easy, the nurses were a joy and Dr. Schmitz clearly a man that enjoys what he does. Stand out team that takes pride in their work. All of the new patient paperwork was also digital (completed on the website prior to visiting) and their Covid 19 processes were buttoned up. Great experience all around.
